It cannot be 11 as the Elite Eight round did not exist for some of those seasons.

Then again, the Sweet Sixteen is also wrong for the same reason.

The NCAA tournament has consisted of atleast eight teams since 1939. Thus, your logic is flawed because there has been an opportunity for an Elite Eight appearance 68 different times. We have eleven Elite Eights. I thought everyone knew that.

all i know, sadly, is that i remember the jumbotran(sp?) saying that kstate had both 16 sweet 16's and 8 elite 8's which i always thought was odd.  but its been that way for years now.

The number is eleven. Did you attend these basketball games sometime in the early seventies??

Gardner took us to two Final Fours ('48 and '51). Winter took us to another two ('58 and '64). Hartman took us to four Elite Eights ('72, '73, '75, '81) and Kruger took us to one ('88). I can't recall the other two but they were probably under Gardner or Winter..

by 8, they probably mean they aren't counting the years we made the F4, and the MNC game.

Then they would report it at seven. I wouldn't put it past our athletic department to be retarded enough to forget how many Elite Eights we have. :blank:

The media guide itself is inconsistent.  On page 132 it says we have 11 elite eights in the following years:

1948
1951
1958
1959
1961
1964
1972
1973
1975
1981
1988

However, page 7 claims 8 elite eights.  Furthermore, it is inconsistent in the number of conference championships.  Page 9 says 18 conference championships at the top, then at the bottom of the page it says 16 conference championships.  However, the number I have always heard before and had come to believe was 17 conference championships.  That is freaking nuts!  But there are several ways to measure that depending on if you are just counting regular season championships or if you add the conference tournament championship as well.  Plus multiple teams can tie for it.  Football is more cut and dried.

OK, I just did more research on the conference championships (media guide pages 154-163).  KSU won the regular season conference championship 17 times (where they get 16 stated on every single page of the guide I have no idea).  These championships occurred in the following years:

1917
1919
1948
1950
1951
1956
1958
1959
1960
1961
1963
1964
1968
1970
1972
1973
1977

If you add in the 1980 Big 8 tournament championship, you could get 18 conference championships.  So I'm guessing that is how they claim that on page 9.

KSU has 11 elite eights, and ku has two national championships.
Why do ku fans seek validation for their "eliteness" in basketball from K-State fans?

ku has two national championships..u idiot.  isnt it like one in the 50s and the one in 1988 where they cheated to get danny manning. yeah not 4 championships, unless ur counting ones that were like during the turn of the century, cuz that would be ridiculous.

yeah they had a couple in a row in the early 20s, when there were probably a total of 10 d1 basketball programs. so if u want to count those your right.
