Not even close. They have Johnson, and a vastly superior defense. As they say, the defense is always ahead of the offense at this stage of the game, and white has a huge advantage there.
I'm willing to bet a 12 pack on this if there's anyone stupid enough to take the purple team.
-
Kinda what I was thinking, however, Freeman's team is basically the 1st team offense and 2nd Defense, and the other team is basically 2nd team O with first team D. I read that in an article, but don't remember where.
-
i wonder how spontaneous the draft truly was? it looks like a challenge to the freeman led offense to me.
the whites should be able to run the ball pretty well, and the purps have everything riding on the laser-rocket armed one.

Honestly, what's the story on Coffman? Is he a solid back-up? Or is he along the same lines as Beau Davis from Nebraska who weighs 70 pounds and the coaches still insist is in the qb competition?
-
there is no competition.

Pretty much. Except that Coffman may actually see playing time this year in a blowout or if Freeman gets hurt. :blindfold:
He's actually not a bad quarterback. Just not really meant for the D-1 level. He doesn't have the physical tools for it. I compare him to Dylan Meier without the ability to scramble. Could have probably been a great QB at Pitt State or somewhere, but in the Big XII...

They call Beau Davis "Skeletor" and "Bones" on the team. I expect he would be killed instantly if he took the field.

I think Coffman will be okay. As has been said, he's doesn't have the tools of Freeman, but I think he's a great decision maker and has really picked up the progressions in the passing game. Coffman is listed at 6-2, 200, so he's not tiny. One of the coaches said he was up to 210. He looks small, but then again you are comparing him to a 6-6, 250 pound guy out there.
The Freeman offense also has the 2 most consistent recievers and our best TE. The Coffman offense has Johnson and Mastrud. I think it will be interesting to see how they do. As I look at the rosters, it looks pretty balanced to me. I think it could be a decent game.

can coffman throw the outs or downfield? or is he strictly going to be a handoff and dink/dunk qb? nothing wrong with that for a backup, just wondering if he has the juice to complete big time passes. everything i've heard so far has his passing game limited by arm strength.
-
From what I saw he gets the ball out to the sideline alright. Not as sure about him throwing down the field. He's a smart kid and makes good decisions, I have a feeling he'll rely heavily on Mastrud and Purvis. I hope Wilson suprises me with a solid game. Plus, with Johnson in his backfield, he better be handing it to him at least 15 times.
-
Yea, Johnson is on the whites... but so is Patton.
Leaving purps with who at running back? McCardle isnt even listed over petrie, and whites have petrie too...
Purps also have the best secondary, and that helps against the freeman/nelson combo
I wonder what would have happened if franklin would have taken freeman with his first, and then coffman with his second... that would be pretty funny
-
I will be really surprised if Patton plays.

He'll be a Heisman contender in 2009.

Really. Is '09 projected to be a low talent year? :loly:

good to hear that he can hit the outs.
i had high hopes for wilson after he committed, but other than the ut game, i haven't been too impressed with him. seems to have the athleticism tho.

No way dude, he's just that good!

I predict Freeman throws at least 3 int's in this game. He has no running back, and some good receivers. So he'll be passing a lot, and the defense will be expecting it.
But he'll be going against the two headed passrushing monster of Rob Jackson and Ian Campbell. Not to mention a decent secondary with Marcus Watts in it. Little time to throw + defense expecting pass + Marcus Watts = Interceptions for Josh "Peyton Manning" Freeman.

Well, he does have the "never lost a game as a starter" stat. Screw Freeman, WE WANT COFFMAN!! :loly: :loly:

Why is it that I've never heard of this Juco Smith QB... I didn't think we were going to have more than 3 qb's next year. Is he a walk-on?
-
his profile for the roster was added less than a week ago. that looks like when they added a bunch of walk ons (like matt wykes).
all the scholarship recruits that are on campus got added in march.
