Setting the bar high: “We have enough talent to win it all,” Walker said. “Anything less than that, and we haven’t accomplished anything.” (http://www.kansascity.com/165/story/74581.html)

that guy is a natural leader. I can't wait to watch this team play.
-
I love this guy.
-
-
That was the best article that Richman has written in Years.
-
I'd love to win it for many reasons, one of which would be to rub it in that dickhead from West Virginia's face*
*Although he'd probably be too drunk to realize who won what.
-
betting he shoots 40% from downtown.
-
Anyway we can set the bar any higher? How about a perfect season?

Unfortunately, Walker's mentality will lead to our demise:

Fun little snippets:
Kind of reminds me of Massey's guarantees that KSU would be an NCAA tourney team. Those worked out well.
I prefer Walker's mentality, myself.
It's better to aim at the stars and hit the moon than to aim at the moon and hit a rock.
Ah, except pointing the gun straight up and pulling the trigger can result in the bullet's coming straight back and drilling you in the noggin. Unrealistic expectations put extra, possibly damaging, pressure on players, and coaches. But, with all of the vast experience your team and coaching staff has to draw upon (all those summer league wins), no big deal.
Seasoned coaches generally refrain from such preseason nonsense. Not always, but generally. I suspect there's a reason.
What are you, a freaking sports psychologist? Name some examples where teams were seriously damaged because of "unrealistic expectations".
Look no further than your own Jason Bennett. If Bennett leaves, I don't think it's good for KSU, as he'll probably develop into a decent post player, given time. Hell, I think David Padgett (sans knee problems) could have been big time here if unrealistic ku fan expectations hadn't helped run him out of town.
Most seasoned coaches would say, "We'll be pretty young, and I think we have a chance to develop into something pretty special..."
It all comes down to how mentally tough the team and coaches are, and sometimes how patient an AD is.
We'll see. And, I'll bring my popcorn.
Oh, BTW Rusty, how about Huggins guarantee of a win over ku in Manhattan this year? Damaging? Maybe. Do you think recruits were impressed with that egg dripping from his face?
Always happy to help, son.
This stuff must be over your head, Rusty. That's OK. You're probably young.
ku didn't get a lot of production out of Padgett after he transferred. Might have helped. KSU won't get a lot of production out of Bennett if he transfers. Might help in the future. Lost potential can be damaging.
An AD fielding calls from donors pissed off because expectations set by the coach and players during interviews that were not met might help persuade him to some hasty decisions he might not otherwise make.
Why don't more seasoned coaches make brash predictions, Rusty? Are they stupid?
-
he has a great point about how huggins allowed his inexperience to impair his judgement w. respect to calling a ksu victory over ku. in fact, it may have been the ensuing shame and embarrassment that caused him to flee the state.
hopefully walker won't be forced to declare early if his prediction blows up on him.
-
Do you suppose a seasoned coach like Billy Self learned not to make brash predictions after getting his ass peppered :D in the first round of the NCAA tourney two years in a row?

Seriously, you're not supposed to want to win!!!

It's amazing how it is unacceptable for any fans to have expectations for their teams, and it is ludacris when they do so but when Jason King says that ku can compete for the North title the sound of ejaculation hitting cpu monitors can be heard for miles around.

So...What I've learned is that Tom Light thinks we hired Bill Walker as our coach? Or that Bill Walker will transfer with bennett? :banghead: I guess I'm too young to realize that his argument has everything to do with everything.

ejaculate, not ejaculation.

Bill Walker = :woohoo: :alleyoop:

Bill Walker is a popcorn eating basketball god walking amongst mere mortals. :billypopcorn:
-
I'm officially on the "Bill Walker for head coach" bandwagon. Get on board now while there are still plenty of seats available. :billypopcorn:

Usually teams need a point guard and good post play in order to win a championship.
-
Syracuse didn't really have a point guard.

I've never heard that before.

he didn't predict a NC, he said that we have enough talent to, so if we don't do it it will mean nothing (pretty much like ku should've won it this year if they knew how to play basketball and didn't rely mainly on talent)

Teams usually need 10-12 serious violations to be put on probation and accused of lack of institutional control and academic fraud.....many times.
