Random topic to engender good feelings toward the football program on the eve of the spring game:
Toss out your favorite KSU football play (or plays) of all time.
Mine: (1) Mario Smith decapitating the BYU receiver in the Cotton Bowl, 1996. The sound that hit made could be heard loud and clear in the far reaches of the upper deck. (I was sitting there...)
(2) Terence Newman's return of the blocked punt against OU in the 4th Q for a TD, 2000. The stadium was so loud my head hurt. Great play, despite the final outcome.
(3) TE screen to Justin Swift from Michael Bishop for a TD in the Fiesta Bowl, 1997. Snyder outschemed Pasqualoni so badly that there were three KSU blockers out front with no one to block.
ksu_FAN, I'm counting on you.

Bishop to Gavin Peries against Ohio U. was amazing.
The loudest the stadium has ever been was the T-New block punt return against OU.
But I gotta go with the Kevin Lockett catch against CU. Unreal.
-
Beasley to Morgan, 2000 NU game. Duh.

DARREN SPROLES 60 YD PASS FROM ELL ROBERSON (JOE RHEEM KICK)
I'd go with the james terry one, but yeah. I'd had to be from the greatest sporting event in this states' history.
-
Beasley to Morgan, 2000 NU game. Duh.
In the snow no less.
-
roberson's 90 yd td run against Nebraska in 02 was pretty sweet.
Newman's return of the extra point against USC
Bobby Walker's back to back pick 6's against ISU in 02.
-
Brandon Archer's pick 6 against Mizzou in 05 to seal the game.
-
roberson's td run against texas in 03 the one where Terry lays out the Texas linebacker.
-
KSU decapitating Zac Wegner.
-
Sproles dragging a Nub linebacker into the endzone in '03. That, and Roberson getting in the face of Lord and the other captains at the toss before the game. That gave me unbelievable goosebumps.

Is that on youtube??

Every play Roberson made @ OU in 2001.
Including "the pitch".
I'm still in awe of that performance.
-
Roberson was the best passer I ever saw.
-
I can't think of any "great" plays at the moment, but the best play from last year was Freeman to Figurs for our first TD against Texas.
-
I think last year it had to be Freeman's run to beat Okie State.
-

No the best plays of the season were those 2 halfback passes in a row. I was so happy.
-
-Bishop to McDonald back of endzone '98 NU
-Ochs ripping Crouchems head off '98 NU
-Snow pass
'00 OU blocked punt.....will never hear a stadium louder than that ever again
.....jesse tetuans last snap wearing purple :lick:

-
There were some great plays last year
1)Josh run vs OSU
2)Watts pick vs OSU
3)Nelson 80 yard TD pass to clinch the win in boulder
4)multitude of Texas plays
I don't think we had any during the 2004/2005 seasons outside of the archer interceptions.
-

I'd probably have to go with that one as well
-
It was pretty loud when T-New returned that blocked field goal all the way back in 2002 vs USC.
-
How about when we came from 21 points down vs. Oklahoma in 2000 and got within a touchdown of the Sooners in the 4th quarter when Brice Libel blocked the OU punt and Newman scooped it up and ran it in for a TD......
Loudest it has ever been in BSFS/KSU Stadium hands down......
-
In 2004 the sproles run at mizzzou where he made that unbelievable cut and and was on pontiac game changing plays. that was an amazing run and was like the only bright spot of 2004.
-
Martin's 65 yard field goal was pretty sweet to watch. It was at a meaningless point in the game, but it was still awesome.
-
Patton KO return vs. OSU last year was pretty good.
Jeff Kelly scoop and score vs NU with 3 seconds left
Sproles spin move to lose those USC players in 02. he had another incredible play that game too.
-
No one has mentioned it yet, so:
Straw to Hernandez. "Hernandez! Hernandez! Touchdown K-State!!" (1989)
Ah, the days of Mitch Holthus.
-
"We'd like to introduce our new head coach, Bill Snyder."
-
My all time funniest/awesome plays:
At baylor when Baylor nudged David Allen off the punt to keep him from a return and then they quit on it and he picked it up and returned it anyways.
Also the 2003 pick in the back of the endzone where white limps off the field with the dangling arm. I am still laughing.
Joe Hall running most the field only to finally get taken down at the one.
-
Joe Hall running most the field only to finally get taken down at the one.
LOL at Joe Hall. Forgot about that guy, but ya know what, he was a pretty dang good RB when he could 1)stay out of trouble, 2) not get winded so dang much

1. Lockett's catch against CU in 1993.
2. Sproles Screen Pass TD against OU 2003.
3. Paul Watson to Andre Coleman against ku in 1991.
4. Beasley to Morgan against NU in 2000.
5. May to JJ Smith on a TB streak 70 yard TD aginst NU in 1993.
6. Doug Bogue to somebody I can't remember on a windy day in 1983 against MU.
-
What about the sandwich we put on the ku player in I think '98 in the rain? Totally kick ass!!
-
3. Paul Watson to Andre Coleman against ku in 1991. SonofDaxJones
Honestly, not many of the new school people know this, but that play might have been the official beginning of the Bill Snyder era at KSU, IMO. I remember that game, ku was more talented, but KSU hung in there, and in the last 7 minutes of a terrible game, KSU and Bill Snyder outplayed and outcoached ku and Glenn Mason. The best thing was, if I am not mistaken, the game came down to the last minute and a 4th down play. Pure KSU magic.
-
NO WAY to pick just one player, or one play.........sooooooooooo....I will go with ALL of David Allen's punt returns.
Especially 2 years in a row against TEXAS! (2 wins in a row against them too!) Down in Austin, they kick it straight to him......he takes off......arm outstretched.....points to his guys to block these guys over here, goes around the whole mess.......TOUCHDOWN! Watching him was a thing of Beauty. GOD, I miss that! :crybaby:
-

That was Jeff Kelly & Travis Litton. I'll never forget it.
-
Many have been mentioned, here are a few more...
David Allen's punt return (refered to above) versus Texas in Manhattan was one of the better ones.
Kevin Lockett catch and score from Miller to beat Cinci.
Roberson's 90+ run vs NU in 02.
Newman's 2 pt return vs USC in Manhattan.
Dirk Ochs (I think?) slamming the ISU QB on his head in the early mid 90s.
Roberson TD throw from his back vs ASU in the Holiday Bowl. PI penalty couldn't even stop it.
-
3. Paul Watson to Andre Coleman against ku in 1991. SonofDaxJones

I completely agree about the momentousness of this play. Magic.
-
The play vs ku in 91 was a great one. That was my first KSU-ku game and I was a JR in HS. The game was real ugly, but those last 7 minutes were great. That TD came on a broken play and Watson left the pocket while Coleman somehow got free.
-
Scott Edmonds blocking the pass from the Baylor QB with his foot.
-
I'm agreeing with a lot of these; and can't think of much more... but does anyone remember Sproles returning a punt in 04... you know the one he didn't fumble... but anyway, both of the gunners were inches away from destroying him as he spun away while he caught the punt over his head? I know it wasn't a spectacular return; but the spin and catch was pretty awesome.
I'd have to vote for the T-new extra point block and return against USC as one of my fav's. But just about any play from the '00 NU game would get my vote for #1.
Also, I'll never forget watching Sproles trot out on the field for the first time... watching a seemingly enormous Scobey run to the sidlines compared to this little squirt standing back there, then hearing the entire stadiums jaws drop as he ripped off 20 or so for his first carry. Pretty awesome.
-
A few more:
1. Kevin Lockett's long TD run after a short pass against BYU in the Cotton Bowl.
2. Roosevelt Duncan returning a punt on a beautiful cutback run for a TD against CU in 1978.
3. Darrel Dickey hitting the TE on a middle streak pattern (Damn I can picture the play but I can't remember the name of the TE) against ku in 1983 for a TD.
-
was it the ut game in manhattan where david allen adjusted his facemask mid return? great play.
Dirk Ochs (I think?) slamming the ISU QB on his head in the early mid 90s.
that was wiren (#44, ochs was #94) that slammed dixon in '94. true lynch mob.
someone with an account should youtube this clip: http://media.putfile.com/KSU-DE-Slams-ISU-QB-1994 (http://media.putfile.com/KSU-DE-Slams-ISU-QB-1994)

I was at the Missouri game when Bogue threw that pass for a tie if I remember right. But wasn't that in 82 and on a fourth and about 30 from the 31. That guy wasn't the best QB we had but damn he had a gun for an arm.
-
Simoneaus pick 6 against UT in Austin was pretty awesome.

Yes it was '82, I was off by a year, Darrel Dickey was the QB in '83. Doug Bogue had a good arm, and that's about it.

Maybe you remember when James Witherspoon ran a punt back for a TD only to have it called back due an offside penalty
so whoever punted again and he ran it back also but it too got called back. I beleive it was 81 or 82 but not sure.

Ted Sims pick 6 in the '03 Big XII title game. I never really felt safe until that happened.
-
Nyle Wiren was the one who bodyslammed the Isu QB.
My top 10 ---
1) Sproles 60 yd TD reception vs OU in 2003
2) D Allen 93 yd punt return vs UT in 1998
3) Blocked punt vs OU in 2000, Newman scoops it up and scores
4) K Lockett one hand catch from Chad May vs CU in 1993
5) Newman PAT return vs USC 2002
6) J Terry hitch and go for 63 yds against the Fuskers 2003 (also vs OU 2003)
7) Chris Canty scooping up a blocked punt and going 45 yds for a TD vs CU 1995
8) A Coleman 69 yd punt return in Copper Bowl 1993
9) Roberson 91 yd TD run vs NU 2003
10) Throwback screen to Swift in the fiesta bowl 1997
-
Travis Ochs' "tackle" of Eric Crouch in 1998....haha still cracks me up!!! :loly:
but other than that...my favorites have to be the James Terry hitch and go against NU in 2003, T-New's blocked XP against USC, Sproles' huge run against ASU in the holiday bowl when he did a complete 360 spin on a dime, the Roberson to Sproles 60 yd TD pass against OU, and the classic Beasley to Morgan winning touchdown in the snow!
-
My favorite would have to be the Darren Sproles run against USC. I'm talking about the one where three defenders had him absolutely surrounded in the backfield, Sproles does a spin move and just runs around all three guys.
-
Bishop owns the entire Ohio team

mario hit on the byu guy in the cotten bowl i still feel that hit.
-
I feel a new fatty video coming on. That would be one sweet video if he could find most of the plays mentioned and make a video.

wow...what i would do to have that type of explosiveness again!
-
was it the ut game in manhattan where david allen adjusted his facemask mid return? great play.
Small Penis Syndrome.......(love the name by the way) That was at Baylor. Beautiful and hilarious! I think it was 1999.
-
Simoneaus pick 6 against UT in Austin was pretty awesome.
To beat the rich, arrogant Texans! Some more good ones:
1) Long TD pass from Beasley to Morgan vs Tennessee in the Cotton Bowl. You know the one I mean.
2) Jon McGraw's long pick 6 vs Colorado in 2000. Him, Simoneau, and Sproles are my three favorite players of all time.
-
3. Paul Watson to Andre Coleman against ku in 1991.
That was THE play that will always stand out to me. Watson was in serious trouble and (IMO) he lofted it up for grabs. The crowd was silent and the ball wobbled into the hands of Andre Coleman who went in for the score. That game had been so frustrating.
As my memory goes, KSU had to fight off a last minute drive that went inside the KSU 15 yard line, with the two final plays being passes that fell incomplete in the end zone.
That truly was the turning point in the Snyder era.
-
Concerning that 1991 game:
Wasn't that the game where a reporter (name escapes me) asked Snyder in the post game PC,What it felt like to "Win a game (paraphrasing) they didn't really deserve (to win)". Wichita reporter?
I just remember reading that Snyder absolutely stoned the guy by saying : "YOU go in that locker room, and tell those players they didn't deserve it (to win)".
Dax? Do you remember something to that effect?

Didn't the reporter ask Coach about winning with sandlot plays.......or something to that effect? That's when he got pissed and said something like......."you just won't give our guys any credit, will ya?"

andre coleman is one of the more underappreciated players of the snyder era. he was yamon figurs for four years (but shorter). and a better wr.
great, great player. and the first to return a ko for td in the superbowl.
crap. is the nfl going to shut down the board because i said 'superbowl'?
-
One of my personal favorites and one that goes under appreciated was Chris Canty stripping an A&M wide reciever who was going in for the go ahead TD @ ATM in '96. We had controlled the game thru 3 quarters until A&M scored 10 unanswered in the 4th quarter (very bad foreshadowing :-[ )

ksu fans that tried to identify with atm as some kind of sister school have always pissed me off.
i hate 'em.

The SuperBowl is an official trademark of the National Football League.
I think that covers it for you.
-
!. David Allen punt return in Austin started a comeback, down 17. Then Simoneau caused two turnovers
2. Bishop run against NU in '97, stiff arming and called for a facemask. Only time I saw a QB called for one.
3. Two interceptions made by Darren Howard at DE, jumping and pulling them out of the air.
-
Newman's 2 pt return vs USC in Manhattan.
The best game I have ever been to and the best play I have ever seen.....according to me.
