Fox sports said the "Sources" say so. I don't think we have much to worry about, I'm sure they'll be good coaches, but I feel like we're Mangino paying these guys!
HIRE PEOPLE IN THE INDUSTRY ARE QUESTIONING MOST: The decision of Kansas State to hire Huggins' assistant Frank Martin and also promote Delonte Hill to the associate head coach. Martin and Hill will make sure that everyone stays in Manhattan and that incoming freshman Michael Beasley arrives on campus. According to various sources, Hill got a multi-year deal worth in excess of $1 million — which is unreal for an assistant coach.

Don't fool yourself, its not all about MB. Dalonte is going to be a hot commodity in the coaching ranks in the next few years, his payday just came a little early.

Weiser and Wefald said today that they told Huggs that money was no issue. Presumably, they would have paid him more than a million dollars to stay at KSU.
So here's what you do tomorrow: you offer Frank Martin at least $700,000 to take the head coaching job, and you offer Dalonte at least $400,000 to stay as the top assistant. Huge raise from their salaries this year, head coaching offer should get Frank, and huge raise for Dalonte and top assistants' post should get him to stay. Should keep the recruiting class pretty intact...and this recruiting class is worth a lot more than $1,000,000 to KSU.
Frank isn't a bad hire, people. If you listened to Huggs' post game shows, a lot of time he gave credit to Frank for the crucial coaching decisions. For example, the full court pressure that won the first NIT game was due to Frank's suggestions in practice.

Actually, the way it was explained to me was, it was the realization that if West Virginia went with someone else as Beilein's replacement, the dude might be a lifer and Huggins would never get a chance to coach at his alma mater. So, in Bob's mind, he had to act now.
No judgment. Just relaying what I was told...

Fatty, in about 8 or 9 years when you get out into the real world . . . you'll begin to understand the difference between proactive and reactive.
What K-State was doing was called a reactive response. On the proactive side of things, Weiser and Wefald failed miserably.

That's just so weird. It didn't make competitive sense to leave behind Beasley, Walker and Hoskins. I would just expect him to be more competitive than that. Plus the whole $2 million thing.

1. In the long term, it's much easier to stock WVU with the talent it takes to win.
2. Winning is a much lower priority for Huggins than drinking with his buddies.
3. Huggins intended to take Delonte.

Regardless of what happens with the players at WVU, they have Old Huggie by the stones... he will be completely unable to go anywhere else no matter what happens.
Pay Dalonte what he wants, make it incentive-laden, and see what happens. If these guys are as good as the "sources" also say they are, we should be fine. I look at it this way, Nike is paying the salary regardless.
