Here is the reason from ESPN's Page 2:
Special Small-Market Meritorious Award: Kansas City Royals
The Royals are paying Mike Sweeney (.258 average in 2006), Odalis Perez (6.20 ERA), Gil Meche (4.48 ERA), Jason LaRue (.194), Octavio Dotel (10.80 ERA) and Reggie Sanders (.246) a combined $41.5 million. That's more than the entire payroll of the Devil Rays, Marlins, Nationals or Pirates.

Screw you. I was at the game today. It's been a great week.

Looks like Sweeney's on his way to Detroit in a trade for the Opera-singing hot dog vendor.

Royals fans don't deserve to ever have a good week. Do what Detroit did, fire your GM (step one. good job Royals) and get a commitment from your owner to win (Illitch got bored with NHL after strike and decided to play ball). As long as you have owners that run the Royals like a Wal-Mart just shoot yourself in the face. It will feel better than watching the Royals over any statistically significant interval of time.

Nothing like opening with a 6 game homestand and promptly going 2-4.

It was a good week!
The pitcher we spent $55 million on didn't completely crap his pants!

the royals without a closer will not improve. we haven't had one for 15 years and we've had the worst bullpen in the history of the sport because of it. we blow 30+ games a year late. that is why we suck.
