Title: What the Bob Huggins "era" taught us.
Post by: michigancat on April 06, 2007, 06:56:17 AM
1)  A good coach can recruit to Manhattan.  Anyone that says they can't is a freaking loser.

2)  Superior strength and conditioning is sooooooo important...it can give average teams an edge over their counterparts.

3)  KSU fans can, and will support basketball like crazy with both money and attendance in the right situation.

4)  We should have serious concerns about our Athletic Director.  (If we didn't already.)

5) Don't hire a drunk ass liar for a coach who turns their back on his players, coaches, university and fans.

What concerns?  Personally, I probably agree quite a bit with dax on the Huggins related issues.

Don't know about Montgomery.

Let's throw money at Lowrey, same style as huggs, but can he recruit Big 12 Athletes?  Would he stay long(probably not, never mind).

Kruger has got to be a viable option.

Problems that started w/ Wooly and sounds like they continued w/ Huggins like Dax describes.

The only thing I'd put on ADTW is why did it take WV for them to realize that the assistants needed raises or that the facilities needed to be put on the forefront and finalized?  That's not good foresight at all.  That's putting your money in a jar and burying it.  To assume based on a conversation you had a year ago that he wouldn't be interested in WV is absurd.  I dont' care how many conversations you had in between that time to now.

The funniest thing of all is I am reading yet another thread on PI, where most of the folks are calling out and ripping somebody who is questioning Weiser.

Sweet Mother of Gawd Tim . . . Huggins WVU buddies are always in Manhattan, flying around with the team etc. etc. etc.  Hello, anyone . . . hello!!

Weiser simply got schooled by Huggins who has been crafting his lying trades since he was a kid...

You need more then a cap gun to play in the ring with Huggy.....

None of the big money guys think ADTW is the problem and neither does Wefald.  And after this, after ADTW did a fantastic job of acting like a hurt 16 year old after his first break up, all of those people will give him a free pass and won't really look at the situation.

Our entire athletic department is riding on Ron Prince.

Horrible hire.

What is Prince doing these days??  Oh yea, he is teaching fat women about football...

Prince would have a better career as a public speaker then as a coach.

I dont' know how you blame Weiser.  It wasn't his fault mich. fired their coach and forked 2.5 million to get Belein(?)  We are victims of the worst timing ever.

Part of his job is keeping coaches happy, especially the hall-of-fame caliber ones.  He failed at this aspect of his job.

Weiser just got schooled by a crafty guy like Huggy...

He stated that when they asked Huggy about WVU, they both laughed and Weiser being the humble blind fool that he is, took Bob's word on it.

Number 1:  You never, EVER take someone's "word" as a guarantee.

Number 2:  Following off point 1, if Huggy gave his word then you put it in his contract with a ridiculous buyout amount of 4 million.

Let's see what Bobby's reaction would have been if point 2 happened.  His answer would have avoided this whole mess.  There is no &@#%ing way that WVU would pay 4 million to get Huggins back home.

It's Weiser's fault, in part, because it took what you just stated in order for our AD and Pres to offer Huggins whatever he wanted and tell him that the facilities would be put to the forefront.  Now, it was kind of obvious that Huggins was leaving for maybe more "intangible" reasons, but after taking this all in, the victim role that ADTW and UPJW played yesterday was embarassing.  I'd of rather UPJW got to the podium and said "Bob Huggins can go f-himself".  That would atleast made us look like our university had a pair of testicles.

Even Jim "6-10" Wooldridge got top 100 HS talent and great Juco talent.  crapty recruiters can't recruit to Manhattan, for sure.

so why can Self get better recruiting classes than mangino?  They are both in the same town.  Why did Sndyer bring in talent but Terry Allen couldn't get his finger out of his nose?

Good coaches (usually with good assistants) get good players, no matter where they are.

He was gone no matter what.  If he were at cincy, I bet he would have left.  It came open once and he turned it down, he couldn't do it again.

Back to the origional subject, I think that coaches can look at this year and see how much we want good bball back here.  This year definately didn't hurt us.
