Why hasn't the airport problem been talked about?
During the conversation, father and son went over "four or five different things."
The elder Huggins then listed:
1) How long 53-year-old son planned on coaching. "He said he didn't think that would be a problem. He said he thought he had a few good years left in him."
2) How the players coach Beilein had recruited to his philosophy would fit in the Huggins' system.
3) How tough it would be to recruit the players to Morgantown that could win the national championship. "That's still his goal," Huggins said of his son. "An NCAA title."
4) A concern to recruiting to K-State is having Kansas City, 120 miles away, as the nearest airport. At West Virginia, recruits fly into Pittsburgh, which is a 70- to 80-mile drive.
5) How K-State's facilities were slightly better than West Virginia's.
6) How KSU's administration has given unwavering support.
And, if the Huggins family had a vote, Manhattan is a 14-hour drive from Sherrodsville, Ohio, compared to a two-hour trip to Morgantown.

Bullcrap.

Bull@#%$.
Agreed. The plane that took Huggins back to WVU flew in and out of Charleston, not Morgantown. At least Manhattan as a regional airport.
-
Rusty. Why did he say that then????
Anyone know?
Isn't the new Ncaa rule that recruits can't take private planes????
-
Yes, we have to drive our recruits in from KC but apparently they will have to do the same. The good thing is that Manhattan is currently in talks with major airlines to see if they want to make flights available to Manhattan from other big cities like Louisville, Chicago, Denver, Dallas, and Memphis. That would eliminate the recruiting problem.

our airport kicks ass.

"No longer are schools allowed to woo prospects with rock star treatment. Fancy hotels, ritzy restaurants and private planes are now off limits. So are personalized jerseys and the use of simulated game-day activities..." as of Feb. 2005.

Thanks waks.
I think this is a problem in recruiting. Something needed to be done.
-
Yeah. Uh, recruiting was obviously a big problem. Riiiiiight.
-
Leyton. How do you know? Just because we got BW & MB doesn't mean it was easy.
Don't you want it as easy as the big schools who airports nearby?
-
Yeah. Uh, recruiting was obviously a big problem. Riiiiiight.
Beasley did actually comment on it at one time. Chances are that it won't ever factor into whether or not a kid comes here but it still would be better if we could fly them directly in..
-
Exactly. I've flown to the Manhattan Airport and it's actually nice. Some improvements could be made but nothing is wrong with our airport
