Brown Recluse Spiders. I fracking hate these things.
« on: June 29, 2010, 11:36:06 AM »
Killed four in my house so far this year.  Never had a problem before.  I'm thinking I should get some traps and bomb the house.  Also, time to move the cat back in.  Anyone else dealing with these bastards?

If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

Those things scare the crap out of me.  I smash all spiders.  Except the big ones.  Those get relocated to my porch lights to eat all those annoying rough ridin' mosquitos, junebugs, and moths that come around at night.

I had a fly in my house the other day.  It was pissing me off flying around and whatnot.

Do we not have them here?  True story: I have no idea what one is.  Also, I wasn't joking, that fly was pissing me off.

I totally flipped a june bug on his back on the way out the door this morning...just to teach him and his friends a lesson on messing with the 1/64th household.   :nono:

Looks like you might be just on the cusp of the range, depending on range expansion.

Here is one....

Was this taken at UNO or UNL? Could be critical for steve dave.

SWEET. So TX has brown recluses along w/tarantulas, fire ants, rattlesnakes, coral snakes, giant centipedes and scorpions. Love this state

Map looks eerily similar to possible Big12/10 expansion/realignment

Go ahead and add the Black Widow spider to the list.  Had a couple that lived in my garage when I domiciled in Flower Mound.  Couldn't stand fire ants.  At all.  Much hate.
Fifteen minutes later, when the Kansas locker room opened its doors to the media, the Jayhawks were still crying. Literally, bawling. All of them. I've never seen anything like it, and I've seen devastated college locker rooms -- after losses in the Final Four, the national championship game -- ever

This guys scientific method.

1. Capture brown recluse
2. Put brown recluse in mason jar
3. Introduce other spiders until one kills the brown recluse

LOVE IT

only a small # of bites have that type of reaction.

Fighting these bastards has become my favorite spring sport.  IMHO sprays do very little to spiders unless it's directly applied, so I use nine raid fumigators (as opposed to foggers) throughout the house and bring the fight to them.  This seems to be the best method so far.  Worried about lung cancer?  Most hardware stores sell glue traps specifically made for the BR.

Have been bitten twice by fiddlebacks (brown recluse). As long as you notice the bite early and go to the doctor and get antibiotics, you won't see that type of reaction. The spot turned a little brown and was kinda uncomfortable (bit on the wrist/forearm both times).

I have been bit 3 times (twice in the barn and once in the attic).  All you need to do is make a paste from ashes and cover the wound for three days.

Yea, reading this thread makes me paranoid. I killed a lot at my old apartment off Seth Child. I could appreciate the white walls and cream colored carpet. Those little assholes couldn't hide from my flipflops very well.  I decorated the walls with smashed spider guts and Nike shoe prints until I moved. Now, Chicats basement laundry room is the only place I've killed some...not near as many as I thought I would. That's good. Chicat keeps the house around 60 degrees all the time. Spiders probably hate that.

this is all wrong.  antibiotics only are used for secondary infections that may develop related to the necrosis that occurs from the spider venom.  the venom isn't effected by antibiotics.
