In Big 12 games the Cats have maintained a solid eFG% of 50%, but TO% problems (especially in the first half) and only maintaining a slight advantage on the offensive boards hasn't been enough, especially in the last 2 tough road games. In games against the leagues upper 7 teams, K-State must get to a point where we play even in TO% to win those games or we will be left with more close losses like in Austin and Ames.

Updated Per 100s:

Its good to see the shooting numbers up in Big 12 play, but rebounding numbers are down.

Thomas is doing a lot of nice things, but he simply must get better offensive efficiency numbers. Obviously he doesn't have to be a major scorer for this team, but he has to be more of a threat than the scoring/shooting he's doing right now.

Another look at advanced stats in Big 12 play, this time broken out by home games vs road games. The first half on the road is killing K-State:

Will (42.9%) and Foster (41.1%) hitting the 3s at a clip that we need.   Shane, just 27.3% and only 4 of last 25.   We really need this to change tomorrow night.

Shane and Westicles combining for 1.84 Ast/TO ratio.  Not too shabby for our 2 starting forwards.  Kstate currently 2nd in B12 and 50th nationally with 1.26 A/TO ratio in conf games

Foster in 5 home conf games = 48.3% 3pt, 62.1% 2pt, 67.2 eFG%, 17.2 pts/g

Nino 88.5% from the line.  Made 16 of last 17 FTs.   Will made 15 of his last 17 FTs too.

Foster/Will/Gip/Westicles/Nino .... combine for 57.0 eFG% in Big 12 games.   4 starters and #1 scoring option off bench.  Have to get Shane going offensively.  Those 6 guys take 81.5% of the shots in league play.  Jevon, DJamer, Omari, Nigel take 18.5% (I am not counting any shots the JV guys take in scrub time)

DJamer, Omari and Nigel played tremendous tonight.   They were 9-15 FGs, 4 ast, 3 stl, 0 TOs.

But the 5 starters and Nino that I talked about in above post --   They were 54.3 eFG, 62% 3pt(8-13), and 72% FT (13-18).   Solid effort and here is hoping they can keep it going when we take our show down to Waco on Sat.

Foster - The numbers become more impressive every week. For a freshman to put up per 100 scoring and shooting numbers like he's doing is very impressive. The only real issue has been TOs, but he's a solid rebounder and also doing a great job sharing the ball.

NuWill - The shooting numbers in Big 12 play are excellent (plus creeping toward 20 pts/100), then he continues do have a great A:TO, decent on the boards, and has quite a few steals. The Will we've all be waiting for really and a difference maker for this team. You could argue he's moved to the 3rd most important player (I'd put Foster and Gip ahead) on this team right now.

Gip - Scoring has dropped a bit, but he continues to rebound while playing a lot of minutes. His physical presence in the paint really helps this team.

Shane - Hopefully he can break out of this scoring slump soon, but he's still doing some nice things (boards, assists) when he's on the floor. If he can get his 3PT% in Big 12 play up around 30% that would help this team a bunch.

Nigel/Jevon - Nigel has stepped in and given some really nice minutes as Jevon figures things out. Both struggle to shoot/score and both will be important down the stretch.

Nino - Energy guy, boarder, and efficient scorer. He gets overlooked a bit and has developed into a much better player than I anticipated.

DJamer - Granted it was mainly one game, but it was a big one last night. The per 100s still show he's a solid option off the bench for Gip, plus we got some good minutes with both on the floor last night against KU's size. Solid boarder and now showing a bit of scoring punch as long as he keeps it around the basket.

Westicles - Does nice things, though last night perhaps pulling the ball out a couple of times would've been a better choice. I'll give the kid credit for not backing down though. He seems to end up making a few big plays in every game and will be a nice player at K-State.

I did this last year, but he's another look going back to the 2000-01 season of the best per 100 possession numbers for the 8 categories that I track. I only included players that played at least 30% of available minutes for each season.

Terry started at guard for Wooly's first season then disappeared but I am saddened you don't remember classicksubasketball legend Phineas Athcison, he only won the CTR with baseline drive in 2002

Phineas "Tony" Atchison

I've written about Terry a few times.   Imagine a laid back version of Lu Colon playing guard and you have Terry's game.

Above Per 100 chart updated to correct an error in my minutes/games played formula for each season. It bumped the rightful owner of blocked shots to the top spot that he earned in his one fateful season at K-State.

Holy crap, I took 2 days off of the board and did not even think to look at the date of your post. Obviously I'm still getting back into the swing of my BBS'ing game.

Those 1st halves on the road...... yikes.  If we had 1.5 less TOs and grabbed 1 more OR, then those numbers go down to about 17.3 TO% and 35% OR.      That's 1.5 more poss where you can score and another 1 poss where u get a 2nd oppourtunity to score.   And that is just in the first 20 minutes.  Those numbers would be fine if you add in 50% eFG shooting (and we are just a shade below that)

For the entire game, our eFG at home is only 2.0% higher than on the road.   I can live with that.... if we shot 52% and 50% on home/road. And I can understand that the FTR will likely be a little higher at home, since in the 2nd half we are ahead more than on the road.... thus we will be shooting more 2nd half FTs at home.  That said, the road FTR needs to be higher.  Rather see the percent be low 40s not low 30s

Like we have discussed, the TO and OR are the true issues on the road.  And to some less extent the 3Pt% made.  It was under 30% before we made 10 3s and hit 7-13 in a 2nd half blowout.   The 3PTA don't have to be as high as they are home since we aren't gonna be hitting 40%, but being around 34-36% consistently would have helped in these road games

And I was just focusing my discussion on the offense.  Defense you cant allow 1.10 and 53% eFG in the 1st half either.  Of course the poor TO% and bad offense makes it harder on your defense
