Coffee
« on: January 28, 2010, 07:37:22 AM »
So, I love this stuff, right?  Buy whole bean.  Drink it black and medium strength.  Anyway, kind of mix it up on what brand I buy.  I usually always have the monster bag of regular Starbucks from Sams Club because it saves tons of money but also pick up random stuff that is in a cool package or that I've heard of.  Any suggestions?  Had something that was a local KC roaster at a buddy's house the other day and it was pretty good but I can't remember what it was called.

I love coffee.  I dunno what I'd do w/out it.  I usually keep something traditional like Folgers at home as a back up plan and then pick up something random that I, also, choose based on how weird the package looks.  The only downside, imo, is when I drink too much in the morning and then my first wiz smells like coffee grounds mixed with garbage.  Has anyone ever had the Dunkin coffee?   For years now I've heard that it is amazing but for some reason I can never bring myself to buy it.

Here's to you coffee!    (but with coffee)  :users:

Just started drinking a cup a day at work. Have no clue about coffee at all. Didn't even like it at first, but then i started dumping tons of creamer and sugar in there. Takes the coffee taste out of it.

Also, i hate coffee breath.

I quit drinking coffee 4 years ago.  I did eat at Panda Express yesterday for lunch though.  I got orange chicken and firecracker chicken.  both were excellent.

steve_d@v3, was the coffee from the Roasterie?

Folgers can GTFOOMF. Only drink the high end brands here, folks. Sometimes I get Roasterie. I've been on a Millstone kick as of late.

ETP has been known to stop at the Roasterie Cafe in the morning in Brookside to get his cup of joe.

:drink: <--- but with coffee with no cream or sugar

It's kinda like beer in that after you first try it you're clueless as to why people like it, but after a couple times you're hooked.  Also, in my past experiences at least, most office coffee taste like balls.
I'm also a HUGE tea fan, but I get a little more snobbish with that.  Crown Center has a rough ridin' amazing tea store.

Love coffee.  Have never even dreamed of grinding it my self.  Is it fool proof?

Used to drink like 4 travel mugs a day.  Now down to 2.

I'm really cheap.  Can I get by with a cheap ass grinder?

Or better yet, is there something that I already own that can work?

You can get a cheap one.  The brand doesn't matter as much as the type of grinder.  Don't get a blade grinder because it heats up the beans while grinding them and can't get the same consistency as a burr grinder.  I have this cheap SOB and it does great.  Can choose whatever consistency you want:

You can get one for $20 at Target.

Nothing else will work.

Aslo:
Get a wire (gold pref) mesh filter instead of shitty paper ones.

i've been told ours is pretty bad, however i have nothing to compare from. I hope down the line i get an elite cup somewhere, and i totally jizz my pants.

You also have to boil water and make one cup at a time requiring boiling water for each cup though, right?  May be off here as I've never used one.

ya i guess you have to boil the water, or you could run the water through your regular machine and get it hot that way, just don't use any coffee in the machine.

also, the presses I've seen are decent size, 20 oz i'd guess.  about the size of a 12th St Pub cat cup, if not bigger.

Disagree on the mesh filter thingy.  I hate rinsing it out and getting grinds in my sink.  Would rather use the paper and toss in the trash.

Love me some Dunkin and or Starbucks.
