Fantastic match. Loved watching Keane whine. Haters, tears, etc.

Also: ESPN Game of wek.  Big time.  They couldn't say enough about how awesome we are.  Feels good

Not a huge soccer fan (still enjoy it but it's probably #5 on my list) but was flipping back and forth with the Royals game and it seemed like every other time I flipped over Keane was whining about something. Was hoping someone would run out a punch him in the face.

Don't know. Winner was apparently from Ottawa, which makes it more likely that they're EMAJ, right? Or maybe EMAI? Maybe the $5M is from oscar Weber as a thank-you gift for saving his ass.

EMOU EMAB, Ottawa is a university town after all.
FYP, LOUIQ :nono:

BTW, Ottawa's pretty divided probably about the KC ratio of EMAJ/EMAW so there is the possibility

Having a Gronk on our team is going to be special

Imagine the party if we won a nc with a gronk on the team :horrorsurprise: :excited:

'nother picture.

Anybody notice the little scoreboards above the glass enclosure???   :emawkid:
Whoa!  Could those be for other big 12 games???
Definitely look like "games of interest" boards to me

Who knows, oscar Weber could turn out to be great. There's no reason to expect it, but stranger things have happened.

What stranger things have happened?

A high major school coming off 3 straight NCAA appearances hiring a coach who had just been fired from another high major school. And a high major coach leaving a school that had made 3 straight tournaments for another high major school that hadn't made an appearance in 8 years :dunno:

When you sum it up like that I  :barf:

I know right :bawl:

I'm sorry, CC, but you couldn't be more condescending in this thread.  To act as if the avenue for change is through email is utterly patronizing.  To act as if decisions are or will be made because I can press "send" is insulting.  This isn't about Frank Martin, this isn't about a TV analyst, this isn't - necessarily - about oscar Weber.  From the moment that the Administration brought in Bob Huggins, the KSU fan base laid it on the f'ing line for KSU.  I'm sorry if this sounds a bit overly important, but once it appeared that there was a commitment to WINNING, regardless of the perception or how straight a tie was, we did everything a fan base could.  We filled up that rough ridin' place, we took part in branding that rough ridin' place the OOD, we supported a goddamn assistant who hadn't done sh*t his entire life because we recognized that this was OUR RISK.  OURS.  Frank's failure was ours.  But we were fine with that because at least the Administration was taking a risk to be excellent.   I'm furious becuase we laid it on the line for KSU and Currie didn't.  He simply didn't.  We gave, Currie took.

ya this one just went ballpark.

yeah.

Yep

Completely agree, KState fans had been sitting back, barely able to enjoy college basketball (even though for many of us it is probably our favorite sport) for most of our lives. Those of us who actually went to school at KState during the Asbury and/or Wolly years where forced to watch bad teams and bad players play bad basketball. Many of us went to those games simply because our love for the sport and our hope that we may see an occasional upset. When Huggins was hired it was as if we where being awakened from a really bad dream. Our administration that for so long had ignored basketball had rolled the dice on a coach that could not only make us better, but could make us winners. KState fans ate it up. Even when Huggins left us we saw that the school was still willing to take chances to win when they hired an unproven assistant in the hopes that he kept together the GRCOAT. I was no longer in school at that point and was living too far away to make more than 1 game that year, but in that one meaningless game I saw more excitement from our fans than I saw in any game the entire time I was at KState (other than KU games). We had finally been given the chance to watch tough, physical, and ,most importantly, winning basketball and we loved it and wanted more. Many of us where angry when Frank left. He had personified us and we didn't have faith in our administration to find a replacement of that. It turns out our lack of faith was justified. Even though someone like Gottlieb or Antigua may have backfired (there's very few "sure thing" coaches out there and none where coming here) but they would have shown US that the school was still willing to take that chance to be great. Who knows, oscar Weber could turn out to be great. There's no reason to expect it, but stranger things have happened. However, for those of us who sat through the Wooly and Asbury era's we see way to many similarities and that's not ok.

I know I basically just said the same thing zacker did, but after stewing about this all day at work I needed to write down my own words.

If he misses the tournament, he should be fired on the spot, and if he doesn't at least get to the second round, he should be on thin ice.

Yes and then no.  He should definitely be fired on the spot if he whiffs on the tournament and / or finishes below 5th in the Big XII.  But he should also be fired if he doesn't make the Sweet Sixteen.  That seems to be the established baseline expectation for the returning team so unless Weber is a pure drag on the talent that's already here, that is - unless he actually makes them worse, he should perform to expectations and take the team to at least the Sweet Sixteen.  Anything less and he should be canned immediately.  And, of course, if he's actually adding anything to the mix he'll take this team further than the Sweet Sixteen (otherwise he's purely dead weight).

I think sweet 16 is what he has to reach to start getting any support from the non-tuck fanbase. Anything beyond that, coupled with positive recruiting may start to win some of us over. A tournament appearance with anything less than a sweet 16 doesn't get him fired, but it keeps definitely doesn't buy him any love. Anything less than that (especially if there's no signs of positive recruiting) should not be tolerated.

However, the reality is that with our fanbase this isn't what happens. He actually has a pretty good situation here. If he keeps the roster we have, he's pretty much guaranteed a tournament appearance and probably a couple wins which results in him earning more time from the majority of our fanbase. If several key players leave, even though he should be held responsible for that he won't be. Our fans might actually grant him more time if that happens than if he'd somehow manage to final 4. And if he happens to beat KU next year we might as well accept that no matter what happens he's our coach for at least 5 or 6 years.

Well, this thread got shot to crap.

Goddamn it, I forgot about this thread. We rough ridin' deserved this

seem forced and ridiculously over the top.  I'm just not buyin it.   :dunno:

Umm, we just hired oscar Weber

3461
scoops after being abused by his gay lover:   "i'm sorry, oscar, i didn't mean to hit your fist with my face!  it won't happen again"

eff off, dumbass.  nobody thinks that currie will fire weber.  it's bigger than that.

What if we can get Currie fired before next season starts :surprised:. What if the new AD comes in and immediately fires Weber and names Dougie interim HC.

Let's do this guys :emawkid:

3462
I love you all. But seriously, give the guy a chance no matter what his background is. The hire could've been much worse, and honestly I don't think a much better coach would've came here maybe a little better coach but not a much much better one. If that made any sense, lol.

Would you be saying the same thing if we'd brought back Jim Wooldridge?  What if we had hired Bob Chipman?  What if Deb Patterson took over the men's team?  Is there any hire shitty enough to piss you off?

Of course. If we hired any of those 3 I would be furious just like most of you guys.. however I feel like oscar has some upside and can really do some good things. A bunch of stories on the internet have been saying its a good hire for kstate too. I don't know what most of you people mad are thinking but I'm sure you guys will be Weber fans real quick!

We're mad because he was just fired for being mediocre at Illinois. But, I guess cause a bunch of internet stories say so he must be great.

3463
We have a bunch of damned retards around here.  If you blindy support this fucknut, Currie is going to view that as a green light to take the entire athletic department to crap one hire at a time.  When it's time to replace Snyder, if God forbid Currie is still here, he's not going to think twice and he'll hire the first person some old fart recommends.  If we are lucky enough to be rid of Weber, he'll do the same thing again with the next basketball hire.  He doesn't give a eff whether we win or lose, and unless the fans show him that it matters, that's not going to change.

I support K-State. Yeah it doesn't make sense, that's the point. If the guy sucks then I'll be calling for his head but I can't see the future.

The best way to support K-State is to let the administration know this bullshit won't be tolerated and make sure it doesn't happen again.  John Currie and oscar Webber are not K-State.

I'm not saying its a great hire or a shitty hire. I'm just gonna see what happens before I melt down, that's all.  If in 2 years emaw basketball sucks then I'll be just as irate as everyone is today.

Exactly. I hate how everyone is bitching about the hire and he's never coached a game for KState yet. Give him a chance and let him prove himself before you all flip crap.

Hey dumbass, I know you're a dumbass and all but nobody needs to see him coach a game at K-State. He has proven he is a loser at the D1 level for the past 6 years. But don't expect to not get called a dumbass in the process. GTFOOH with that "wait and see" garbage.

Okay, come back and talk to me next March.

Next year proves absolutely nothing. Unless half the team leaves because they don't want to play for Weber, next year's team should be expected to make at least a sweet 16 and anything less than a making the 2nd round should be considered a dissapointment. The only way next season could influence me towards liking this hire is at least a final 4 and some indication of building a future (solid recruiting, solid coaching staff).

As a BCS program that has won a game in each of the last 3 NCAA tournaments and has shown a commitment to improving facilities we should not be forced to wait and see on a coach like Weber. I'd have been willing to wait and see on a gamble (like we did with Huggs and Frank, and could have done with Gottlieb) that would have brought a face and and an image to our program. Weber doesn't do that. Weber doesn't excite the fanbase, it doesn't excite the media, and it doesn't excite potential recruits.

3464
Simply supporting Weber because he's now our coach is exactly the reason we have someone like Weber now as our head coach.

3465
I'm so rough ridin' done, I don't even want to watch the final 4 tonight because even thinkiing about basketball we remind me we just hired oscar rough ridin' Weber. Ugh I'm going to go watch a movie, eff my fiancee, or anything else that keeps me from :goodbyecruelworld:

Get out while you can. We won't blame you. You don't deserve this. No one does.

GTFO while you can.

You're too good for the mid-major we're about to become (well, most of you).

I blame Kougar24 if the players leave.

I blame oscar rough ridin' Weber and John rough ridin' Currie

3469
I could always go the Wichita St. route. Imagine how fun it could be saying things like mid-majors get no respect and the big schools are just afraid to play us. Plus I could pick any team I want to for football. I could still follow KState (not likely with Currie as AD) or maybe Oklahoma St. (fiancee is a fan, so there's that).

Maybe Brown-nose wants to leave Clemson because he knows Frank is going to own in-state recruiting and own him on the court, too.  :bwpopcorn:

@ owning S.Carolina in state recruiting. I think HS basketball in SC may be even worse the HS basketball in KS

it would suck to be in sc and suck at both football and basketball, the only 2 sports that matter.

really shows how terrible your 2 programs are if baseball is actually popular.

Yea, know where else baseball is really popular? Wichita St. I guess their basketball team is decent (alot better than S. Carolina that's for sure) and hey, their football team was undefeated this year.

A friend of mine was at the DC Alumnir event tonight.

Evidently Schulz said a number of ‘impressive’ candidates have contacted the school about the opening. He said that they would not rush it but wanted to find someone with the right values, skills, alumni support, etc that would fit in the K-State way of things and to give them a couple of weeks. Sure hope it doesn’t take that long.

Guy on our site.  God, I hope that's right.  It would dispel the, "Hire a mid-major loser by Tuesday" rumor.

YES!  THE ANIMAL DOING DUE DILIGENCE LIKE AN ANIMAL SHOULD!

Over Olive Garden Breadsticks
JC: I have Tad Boyle lined up to be our coach, all we need to do is hammer out a contract
Animal (calmy swallows a bite): I think we need to think about this a bit.
JC: Well what about Sean Sutton, I already already let a leak get out that we could have him announced on Tuesday
Animal: No John, no.
JC: Kirk, these are great hires, what more do you want?
Animal (sets down his breadstick, leans forward and interlocks his hands): I think it's time we talked to Doug.

End scene

I love Mike Jarvis.  That being said Al Sharpton is a better fit for our fanbase.  They thought Ron Prince was uppity and he was from Junction rough ridin' City.  I couldn't imagine the backlash the first time K-State fans heard Jarvis talk.

Wow, didn't realize he won his league this year. Only knock for me is he's never left the east coast - other than that he's great. And the firing/probation thing probably eliminates him more than his well-spokenness.

What about Jamie Dixon or Steve Lavin? Lavin benefited from a ridiculously experienced team last year but recruited his balls off and should be pretty good soon. Also landed DeAngelo Harrison who Frank refused to try to recruit. Dixon may want to get out while the gettin's good and work his way back west.

Nope, just his prostate
