5 pm cst. Will YOU be ready!?!?
(In all seriousness, will this rough ridin' blog even be ready?)
-
Over under on how many are punk songs made in the past 15 years? I put it at 3.5. He loves his brand of music but is also a bit of a realist.
-
I'm going to tear this list apart after it's release.
-
I'm sure I'll be left shaking my head (in disagreement).
-
I'm going to tear this list apart after it's release.
Not enough Limp bizkit for our guy ERII.
-
you want a quick way to know if the list is either too legit or should be quit? scan as fast as possible to check and see if gnr rock anthem "paradise city" is on it. if on, then "too legit". pump this list and let it roll. if not on, then hit the "quit" button. this list is DOA and will be dumped with last weeks newspapers.

Made it through one vocal line of #10. Would prefer Limp Bizkit. Woof. Sorry Jakesie

that song with a really great drop and it has a police siren in the middle of it... oh man, scared my ass so many times while listening to it in the car!

You heard it here first folks. Pressure already mounting. Could Steviesie's list be discredited as definitive?

What makes this Miike Snow guy more desperate, Silvia, or the fact that he seems to live in a destitute area of an Eastern Bloc country?

Improvement!

Solid #8

9 was a new song for me. I liked it. No. 8, what a treat!

My god your explanation for 5 is asinine. No one had used backup vocals as instruments before? Lots of bands want to mush your face right now for saying that.
No offense, IRL friend
-
What a crap list. All of these songs are crap except No. 8 and No. 9.
I'm surprised they let you post on this blog.

Not the way they did. Three guys singing different lines at the same time? Two doing one line over and over while the lead vocalist sings lines on top of it? No way. Hell, give me one example pre-TBS if it was so prominent.
-
Was this some sort if VH1 special? I feel like I'm missing something...

Not sure if you just meant in "alternative" music (whatever that means) or in general but Queen and lots of Motown disagree, just off the top of my head.

Alternative, and we're going to need a link.

What are the honorable mentions?

At like 2 and a half minutes in you have two lead vocal lines and backup vocalists.
-
What are the honorable mentions?
"The Season" by All Get Out
"Calm Before the Storm" by Fall Out Boy
"23" by Jimmy Eat World
"Belt" by Say Anything
"Fractions" by Emery
"When Paula Sparks" by Copeland
"Rats and Rats and Rats for Candy" by The Blood Brothers

Let me rephrase my statement: No one had used vocals like TBS did in another GOOD song.

Holy rough ridin' Jesus. I was about to post more examples, but it is obviously not worth my time.

You should just count your losses on this one Stevesie. Probably lots of mushing in your future if you don't.

You know what I mean though, right? TBS did it every song on that album. All the ones you're posting are one from each band, like they did it as a weird thing to do on a song. Look at the alternative albums that came out after "Tell All Your Friends". Everyone started doing it after that. I probably exaggerated by saying they were the first. I mean, no one's ever really the first to do anything. But they mastered it in a way that was appealing enough that everyone else started doing it.
-
IIRC, this is Stevesie's long awaited top 10 list. If anyone is gonna get mushed in this thread, it's going to be people not named Stevesie.
-
I guess. Although I'd argue that Blink was doing a fair bit of it on Dude Ranch and Enema of the State too. I think I mostly just hate that "bubblegum-punk" (emo? :dunno:) genre in general.

Sorry you're like, 45 and don't know good music, bro.
Should have just called it "Songs I like from H.S. and college with a couple of others thrown in." Woof.
JK, I like all of the songs. The only one I really don't like is the Something Corporate song, but I agree it spawned a ton of similar sounding stuff (most of which I also don't like). Good list.

i think the only band on the list that i recognized was smashing pumpkins.

Why do you guys depend on this guy and MC for music? They're both hipsters (no offense guys), they don't know what they're talking about. :dunno:

/scrolls to bottom to look for "Stolen" by Dashboard Confessional.
/throws computer in trash.
-
Vocals over vocals??? WOW! Great invention, taking back Sunday! There's no way Bach did that 300 years ago!
-
stevesie- protip---->if someone complains about a song that didn't make the top ten, tell them that it was considered but landed just outside the top ten.
-
I'm not sure I've heard of any of those songs. I've heard of Smashing Pumpkins and Grouplove. This probably says more about me than Stevesie though.
-
NO rough ridin' JA RULE?!?!
:clac:
-
Thanks for sharing, stevesie. Really put yourself out there for us.
It made me look within myself and contemplate what I would do if I had to make a list of my top ten favorite songs.
-
we should all submit our top 10 lists and then have centraltexascat make a map of them

Yesterday at work we were talking about best songs in movies/TV shows. "Stolen" was the first one I thought of.

The cover by New Found Glory was discussed. Just as you guessed, right outside the top 10.

Just curious if any Savage Garden songs were considered as part of the Top 10? I personally made a top ten just in my brain a few weeks ago and it had 4 Savage Garden songs. Let me know, thanks.

I thought I liked Stevesie based on his posting but after this list it's hard to take him seriously.

Man life would be awful if I refused to be friends with anyone who didn't have the same musical taste as me. To each their own, I guess.
-
Just busting on ya, Stevesie. Hearts, bruh, hearts. :)
-
Going to have to add this to the list. Not sure where at this point, but I have a strong feeling it will end up in the top 5 before it's all said and done.

I'm very impressed you had the range to include SfaIR in your top 10. It's easily in my top 5.
