If the Royals finish below .500 this season that has to be it for Dayton right? I mean I know the Glasses and all that but no way should anyone be keeping their jobs the way this season is going. Maybe the pitching coach and whoever is responsible for scouting and signing in Latin America but other than that  :Yuck:

We called up some catcher today

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Francisco Pena - Tony's son. Resting Salvy

Quote from: KC STAR
With Salvador Perez ailing, the Royals promoted catcher Francisco Pena from Class AAA Omaha. To make room on the roster, they dispatched second baseman Johnny Giavotella back to the minors.

Perez aggravated soreness in his right hand on Monday night. He is not expected to be available for the next few days, team officials say.

Pena, 24, can make his big-league debut for a club to which he possesses longstanding ties. His father is Tony Pena, who managed the Royals from 2002 to 2005. His brother, Tony Jr., played for the team from 2007 to 2009.

Pena was hitting .240 in Omaha with enticing power. His on-base plus slugging percentage was .849. He has homered nine times in his last 23 games.
Once again, Giavotella failed to impress during a big-league stint. He hit .161 during a nine-game cameo. One of his hits was critical, a three-run, go-ahead home run in Seattle. But he provided no other extra-base hits.

Being a son of TP and brother to TP, Jr isn't something to brag about to Royals fans.

I think we're going to learn a little bit more about greyscale (sp?). There was a significant portion of aDwD dedicated to it. Then again, maybe it is just a plot device to eliminate Jon Connington and Shireen from complicating the story further.

With the way Val freaks out about her I'm sure there's going to be some significance, not just oh, she died from it.

2605
She probably just plans on burning her.  She's big on sacrificing children with possible royal blood.

I was thinking the same thing.

That was what I figured too, it just seemed to be a tip of the hand a little earlier than the books

2606
So I think we may have had another teaser to a future storyline in the show when Mel was trying to explain why Shireen needed to go with them. Seems like it was implying Shireen will have a key role in the future when she's really done nothing in the books.

So hey, did you guys know the Royals have 3 of first 40 picks in the MLB draft? Yea so there's that

Dayton is the GM, tho

Honestly, drafting is one of the areas I'm not upset with Dayton and Co. about. Bubba was a wiff but other than that they've done an ok job. Now player development is a whole other story.

I'm seriously thinking about not reading the last two books and just watching the show. Or maybe not even watching the show because I'm so sick of George RR Martin's bullshit.

Weird.

GRRM was/is a struggling screenwriter that happened to Gump his way into the best fantasy series this side of the Wheel of Time and the Dark Tower.

He gets off on this crap.  I think he's an asshat, but I'm too invested now.

I absolutely think he puts crap off simply for more attention.

Speaking of The Wheel of Time, what's everyone's opinion on that series? I'm considering making it my summer reading.

The Galaxy signed a 15 year old today.

New youngest current player in the league. Pretty sure EPB was the previous.

That kid looks like he's already going bald

Sporting Portugal do have a pretty BA logo tho, I can't deny them that

I yearn for the days that the term "bookworm" was unsullied.

It is scholarly to discuss a book and the message as it applies to life.  There are some great books to get lost in that can direct a persons life in a positive direction.  Unfortunately with the state of our visual media first society young people are trying to fulfill that need with cookie cutter blockbusters. Sad, really.

Yeah, was talking about porn tho.

I thought this was a GoT/ASoIaF joke

Malice was the word I was looking for.  Good catch.

He did try to name Jaime in the Vale in the books, and like the show he was denied naming an absent champion.

I dunno, I think it would be a smarter move to name Jaime than the greatest fighter in Westeros.  He wouldn't be naming a champion who he thought could win, he'd be naming one he thought couldn't lose, i.e Tywin/Cersei wouldn't match him up against someone who'd kill him (or would she?).

In the books it's made clear that Cersei means to name the Mountain from the very beginning. I don't remember him even considering Jaime as an option, probably because a) he had no idea where Jaime was and b) he didn't think Jaime would actually do it because, as far as Tyrion knows, he and Cersei are still lovers. After Bronn refused him, Tyrion basically gave up the idea of tbc. It wasn't until Oberyn himself suggested it prior to the last day of the trial that Tyrion again considered it.

I'm pretty sure we overpaid for Vargas and somehow he has still been a bargain. I kind of want the Royals to experiment and see how much of our pitcher's success is just really good defense. Like, bring Lima back and put him on the bump and see what happens. Maybe our defense can make anybody look way better than they really are?

 :sdeek:

I honestly don't think he's kidding...

It was a joke, pretty obviously. I just think our defense covers a multitude of sins by our pitchers, and kind of wonder how good our pitching actually is, because some of our pitcher's results and their peripheral stats REALLY don't match up.

How do you think Dylan Meier would do?

i don't think sending Moose down will help him tho. as sys pointed out, Moose mashes in AAA. he mashes in spring training. he mashes everywhere, except up here. so he needs to figure it out up here to mash up here.

Whatever strategy they have, is not working, so a plan of just keep doing what we're doing doesn't work.

They haven't tried sending him down mid season, letting him mash, then bring him back up. Who knows, maybe just serious talk of it will "fix" him. Either way, his ceiling and his value are much high than Billy and that's why I'm worried more about fixing Moose than Billy.
