My alaska card's coming up for annual fee, which prompted me to look to see if I should get the CSR now w/my slot 5, so I could cancel alaska and get another one right after. I was looking to see if I'd be able to get the $300 credit towards airline or hotel gift cards, as I don't think I'll need to spend my own money on travel the rest of the year, and I ended up finding they switched that in May from a $300 credit each calendar year to a $300 credit each cardholder year, which sucks. Not being out of 5/24 until now has kept me from the 100K bonus and being able to get $600 credit instead of $300.
Was that change ever covered here? I saw doctor of credit thinks it doubling the $300 could still be done if you spend immediately at the start of year 2 and the cancel and demand the annual fee back, but I wouldn't count on that.
I guess I might as well get it now knowing I'll have a year from now to spend $300 rather than having to make sure I spend that w/in 2017, unless anyone thinks they might raise the bonus back above 50K sometime in the near future.
