I'm taking a couple hours off work, grabbing the kids and wife and driving north of topeka to sabetha (have family there).  Will watch it unfold, drop the kids and wife off, and go back to work.  I remember the annular eclipse in '94, I was in junior high and we were allowed to watch outside.

I've been planning on heading up near Hiawatha someplace with Mikey jr. , but as we get closer I'm a little worried about the traffic jam projections I keep hearing about.

My hope is they all try to go to St. Joe.  My sister said there was a watch party type thing in downtown Sabetha.  Going to avoid that.  I don't care if we watch it from a gas station or a dirt road, as long as we watch it.

It sounds like the event will be similar to the Royals WS celebration, but across the entire country. If I were going, I'd pick somewhere out in the middle of nowhere. Any semi-populated locale sounds like it will be overrun with people.

It takes a couple hours for the moon to completely traverse the sun, but the total eclipse will last anywhere from 1 second to 2 minutes 40 seconds depending upon how close you are to the center of the path of totality. Apparently a total eclipse is way cooler than a 99% eclipse so you want to get into the path of totality if you can.

I'm gonna try for Atchison.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, K-State fans could have beheaded the entire KU team at midcourt, and K-State fans would be celebrating it this morning.  They are the ISIS of Big 12 fanbases.

Lincoln, NE?  It's barely even in the totality zone. Is this list a joke?  Jefferson City?! LOL!

I try to read these articles and get bored instantly.  Quickly and concisely, if this thing is about when the moon is right in between you people and the sun and blocking the sun out, why are you wearing special glasses to look at the sun that you can't see.  Sun's out every day with no impediments and we're all fine.  And tf is a corona in a sun context?

Only during totality can you observe it without the glasses.  The glasses leading up to it just protect your eyes and let you observe the completion of totality.

The corona is basically a halo of plasma that extends beyond the suns surface.  Solar flares exist in this region which are projectiles of plasma driven by magnetism that can be hundreds of earths in diameter.
