In unofficial final results, Kansas City residents voted 51 percent to 49 percent in support of a petition initiative from streetcar opponents. The vote was 17,344 to 16,492 in favor of reining in the city’s participation.

Voters south of the Missouri River would have allowed the expansion to go forward, but Northland voters gave the petition opposing expansion the edge.

Sometimes the luddites need to be dragged kicking and screaming into progress

while i understand that some folks are slower than others, harking back to the 1860's isn't progress for most of us

can you read?  (serious question)
if you think that the streetcar or the increased taxes associated with funding it only relate to a certain district of the city than you're a rough ridin' mongloid.  but i'm sure you don't think that.  but can you read?

increased sales tax in midtown does not affect 2n kenn living in a split level next to the metro north mall parking lot.

imo, if money was coming out of the general kcmo budget for the streetcar, then the general kcmo pop should have a vote. but that's not the case.

i think in general there is a huge amount of misinformation out there. i mean wacky reads this thread and still thinks the streetcar is taking money out of his paycheck for crying out loud.

increased sales tax in midtown does not affect 2n kenn living in a split level next to the metro north mall parking lot.

how does this even make sense to you?  sales taxes have nothing to do with where you live.
there are plenty of kcmo residents who work within the new TDD on the plaza and spend a lot of time and money there, they're affected by tax increases in the highest taxed district in the metro.  let alone the KCMO residents who chose to visit the area because, you know, it's a shopping mall where people from across KCMO spend money, doing shopping, paying taxes.

the streets that these people paid for are being torn up and they'll be rerouted, they should have a say in that too.

pick and choose your arguments, split hairs, ignore reality, it's the slying way.

Well I disagree that shopping in a place gives you the right to vote on transportation projects in that place

I love rehashing century old voting standards because clams doesn't like the project. He doesn't speak out against the TDD that nobody voted on that gives everybody "free" plaza parking.

Don't want to support the streetcar and didn't get a vote? Shop at the Gap up north. If I was butthuet about some OPKS sales tax I didn't have any right to vote on...know what...I wouldn't go there.

Fact is the southern extension was voted on already. Will this illegal petition stop it? No. Will it stop future expansions? Depends on the courts but I'll bet on no.

Phil, i am still of the mind that the northland wildlings think the extension will take money out of their paychecks. if they knew all it meant was an extra 5 cents on their Yardhouse tab during the b12 tourney, i doubt they would gaf
