So it looks like the gateway handles 200k-250k drivers a day, the streetcar gets like 2 million a year right?

I am definitely pro-streetcar but what a terrible argument lol

The comparison is a bit silly but it highlights that we spend and spend on unnecessary highway projects and nobody bats and eye but the streetcar had 2 votes and endless wailing about tax money.

Joco gateway was a pretty unnecessary project. An hour or 2 a day will a little bit busy, big deal.  It will increase sprawl which increases infrastructure costs even more.

lol. Unnecessary? Says the guy who doesn't commute to work daily. And i'm the one who's bitched about traffic, construction, etc. It's definitely not unnecessary when it's highly functioning.

Lol okay. Cars were getting to and from the highways they wanted just fine.  This city seems to think the only acceptable highway situation is one in which they can set their cruise no matter the time of day.

It's wasteful.

like, one of those things covers 1.8 miles and is a shiny toy to look at and the other one, you know, gets people to wherever they eff they want to go in the metro.

Now it will do it more efficiently. I think non-commuters should sit this one out.

Sounds about right.

I don't care honestly....I was trying to explain what the tweet was going for (in a silly way).

Go rebuild your highways all you want.

That's fine....glad it works better for a couple hours a day. Was it worth ~$300M+ that nobody got to vote on?

Comparing it to the streetcar is silly....I agree. They serve two different purposes.

That was my only point. Mocat dropped it in here like "case closed" and walked away and I'm just like lol at that comparison. There's plenty of ways our tax dollars are being wasted out there, but i'm fine with making transportation easier around the metro. I loved working and living downtown, but most of the time i've worked off I-35 and/or the 435 loop.

That was the point of the tweet (I believe).... wacky cat, who represents a pretty average KC metro resident, had no problem with that project because it saves him/her a couple minutes during the heaviest rush hour....but the starter streetcar line had vote after vote and intense media and public debating over....even outside of the impacted taxpayer or user.

Building highways is very expensive. We should be cautious on just expanding lanes because one to two hours a day you have to go 30mph for 2 miles.

It's not just congestion, it's age and safety. K-10 is (probably) going to be the next major project, it's well over capacity and becoming quite a safety problem.
