He's leaving something out.  The story jumps from him whispering that kids are asleep to Mrs. Douscher going off on him.  One thing is for sure, whenever we find out what he's hiding, the last piece of the Is This Guy A Dick? puzzle will fall into place.

there's also the new twist of Douscher telling Mrs. Doucher she's being too harsh disciplining the 3 year old in front of Richard. I mean, yeesh, this vacation.

I'm picturing Richard getting woken up by a 3 year old and snapping at him/her "GOD, THERE'S PEOPLE SLEEPING YOU LITTLE TWERP" and SIL going "OH MY GOD I'M SO SORRY TO DISTURB YOU RICHARD I'M GOING TO MAKE A BIG SHOW OF COVERING UP THE CHILD'S MOUTH SO YOUR PRECIOUS NAP IS UNDISTURBED" and BIL is like "JEEZ TAKE IT EASY, GO OUT THE DECK DOOR" and she's like "HE NEEDS TO GO OUT THE DECK DOOR" and Richard is stomping upstairs (with his phone, important detail) acting like a child where the Douscher family is like, "jeez, what the eff's your problem, Dick?"

They're all Dick's, really.

My biggest problem is still that Richard has this "I'll nap where I want" free-wheeling lifestyle that he expects his co-vacationers to concede to.  Particularly when his own bed would be the safest place for him to avoid the flu bug (not the actual flu).

Although for the main part, I think Michigancat solved it.  I wasn't reading the proper passive aggressiveness into the situation.

Mr. and Mrs. Douscher WERE NOT IN THE ROOM.

The strangest thing about all this is that Richard feels like he has to play up the incident as some traumatic moment instead of just saying, "hey honey, why don't we take a vacation ourselves instead of with your entire extended family plus FOUR SMALL CHILDREN running around everywhere"?

Yes! What kind of vacation are they on and where is this condo? Was lounging by the beach/pool not an option? why would someone go to florida to stay inside a condo and watch TV with a bunch of kids under 4? at the very least go out to the deck you dickdouscher!

I'd have to imagine FIL/MIL are bankrolling these vacation ops

That thread has 100 posts, and they keep asking him to clarify and he simply can't.

I'm leaning towards him being slow and very unaware of his surroundings and situations.

Thus, going with him being the dick, without even knowing the actual details of the story.
Is his name oscar?

It just occurred to me how funny it is that a bunch of people on that board are sincerely trying to determine whether OP is a dick.

It seemed like a good opportunity to humanize some people again, while also mocking them relentlessly for their choices.

Here are some things I do that are the opposite of classy.

1. Walk outside in my boxers to pee (I live in town)
2. Microwave fish because it's quicker when I'm in a hurry
3. Eat Ramen
4. Drive rebuilt or salvage title vehicles
5. Buy my shoes at Walmart
6. Aldi... because it's brilliant

That should be a good start.

Lets hear your ghetto secrets.

White people are absolutely the worst
