I think the MOD'S need to step up and use all of the gE advertising funds to land Edwards on a NIL deal instead of using it to buy SD's kid new bat's (1 Cold weather and 1 warm weather) every year and Pete a new boat.

I just tried to stand like that and my artificial hip hurts now.  What exactly is he packing on his belt?  That's not a pliers holder.

If you take your girl to the local dairy queen and see this stud sitting inside you better just turn that truck around if you want to keep your girl.

Its pretty crazy that we zoom down roads at 80mph in a metal tube with no control over what other people are doing...we just assume everyone knows the rules (merging/passing/etc) and somehow it works (mostly).

Sup nerds.

I have my 401k with my employer with 5% match and then they match my investment which is neat, have had a Roth IRA that I maxed out last year and am already getting close to maxing it out this year. Any other investments I should be worried about on my radar as a single 26 yo male? With my job I cannot sports bet so that's nice so looking to put my money into something worthwhile. I also have a high yield savings that I put my bitcoin money into but have been told to maybe put that into a mutual fund...

Thoughts? :bwpopcorn:

taxable investments are underrated imo. good job on the tax advantaged stuff. if you don't have a brokerage account you should open one (can do it the same place you have your 401k/IRA) and like SF said a simple S&P fund (I use VOO) is a good option to set and forget. Also just keeping a chunk in money markets there isn't a bad deal as you'll probably scrape 5% from that at the moment. if you have kids (OR EVEN IF YOU DON'T BUT WILL SOON) you could start a 529 for them. lots of good options out there.

I second basically all of this.

It's currently pretty easy to open high interest savings account and get 4-5%. That's a (basically) risk free way to save for a house.

529s are very powerful if you start early. If you're sure you are going to have/adopt at least one kid even a few years from now (I think; consult your tax attorney) then you can open an account and even just put like $20-$100/month into it. Future (and little) Greg will thank you.

Look into whether you have investment options through your HSA. HSAs are the only accounts that you pay into tax free, grow tax free, and you can withdraw tax free. The only catch is that to you have to use the funds for health expenses. But lucky you, you live in America and our health care (especially for elders) is ridiculously expensive so you won't have trouble spending it.
Came here to say this, hsa's kickass.

I think one of the best feelings in golf is when you're on the tee box and a group rolls up behind you and then you proceed to just smash your drive dead central down the fairway.

Also nice: I was golfing on Friday and I had a shot where the ball was just barely outside of a greenside bunker. So my shot is I have to stand inside the bunker, with the ball probably 9" above my feet, and I chip it over the bunker onto a downhill sloping green that might have actually just been concrete painted green, and the ball stopped about 4' from the hole. I didn't realize that I had an audience from a nearby teebox but these guys were watching and were like "wow! Hell of a shot!"

Smashing a drive off the tee box is a great feeling but for me the best feeling is hitting a perfectly flush 7 Iron from the fairway and the ball landing on the green just like you pictured it in your head.

John Douglas' books mindhunter (series is based off of) and BTK are great.

There's another called cases that haunt us that isn't as good.

Douglas profile of BTK led them to come up with the idea to put the lead detective front and center and make him look like a "super cop" that was assigned to catch a "super killer" IE BTK because JD hypothesized that this would be irresistible for BTK and that BTK would engage with this "super detective" because BTK thought he was so much smarter than everyone else.

And it worked like a charm.

One of my high school baseball coaches worked for the WPD and supported getting him. I remember very distinctly him with a very big (and well deserved) crap eating grin on his face when they aired the arraignment on the radio during our field day (when we literally were prepping the fields for the season all parents and players). It was something kinda cool to have witnessed.

And yeah, to hear the whole story of how they got him was crazy. The home depot he dropped stuff off at was literally a half mile from my house growing up and we went all the time. Was kinda surreal how close he was that whole time.
I was in Wichita for the state wrestling tournament the day they arrested him. As we were taking the van to the arena(coliseum?) we saw all these cop cars and streets blocked off just off the highway...turns out it was BTK getting arrested.

It's a fine line... Definitely easy to get information overload to a point where you're just twisting yourself in knots. I admire how bubba Watson has purportedly never taken a formal lesson, but he's also an exceptional talent. If you don't fully understand the mechanics it can be very valuable to have someone who does say "hey quit moving your head around so much" or w/e and like bam game changer that just fixed a bunch of your issues

Golf is very weird. Its really the only sport I've tried where I really really struggled. I'm def shitty at other sports, but I could always at least be average. When I first just started going out there, I obviously sucked ass, but started getting a bit better on my own just by playing. Then I took some lessons and learned some things and got a bit better. Then, out of rough ridin' nowhere, I couldn't even hit the ball 30 feet. Just over and over I would be slicing, chunking, etc. It just happened and it lasted for like a month or more. That is the hardest part mentally for me. I feel like I'm doing the same thing I did before, but the results are crap and I have no idea why. As I said above, I hope i'm a bit past that as I've kind of figured out that if the ball does this, I probably did that and can adjust a bit. Learning to play golf past 40 is not recommended. I'm making my kids play so they at least learn the basics early.
I wish I would of learned to play as a kid but my dad never played so I ended up taking a 1 credit hr golf class at ole ksu and had a buddy who worked at Colbert hills who would let us play the par 3 for free. That class was the only instruction I've ever had and my grip is pretty messed up now from figuring out what works for me. Ended up shooting an 88 at Hodge Park in Nkc last weekend so I'm happy with that.

About 4 years ago I went through a stretch like you were talking about where I just couldn't hit a ball, literally went home after losing 10+ balls on 7 holes on a 9 hole round after work.

Stopped playing for about a month and I was back to normal.

Since the JoCo library eliminated late fines I just return my books whenever I want.

i don't think there's any shame in playing by the rules, ben ji man.
What if sometimes you hold onto them so long the library assumes you lost it and charges you for the book....(They drop the charge when you return it)

Ben ji: So, um how long does wheat stay good In that silo that hasn't held grain in 10 years?

Dad: At least 2-3 years maybe if you fumigate it.

Ben ji : so you really just wanted a barn full of feed and a silo full of wheat in case the apocalypse came and once you have that you will just lease out the land?

Dad: The barn is full of feed and once the silo is full of wheat I will feel pretty good.

18
It went something like this

Ben ji: So why not do it now?
Dad: I'm waiting until we harvest the wheat and fill the bin.
Ben ji: So you're going to hold 8k bushels in the bin that hasn't held grain in 10 years... why not just sell the harvest?

Dad: China/Ukraine/Russia/war you will thank me  as it's our backup retirement/survival plan.

Was having dinner with my parents tonight and my dad mentioned how half his dream farm scenario was complete because he had some feed bales inside of the Morton building/barn.

Then we started talking about his "turn key" solution for when he is too old in a couple of years where he basically just leases the land to our land baron 2nd cousin.

....

It’s pretty wild how much of our society sits around planning for that stuff. I have an aunt and uncle who do. They have an entire basement filled with jarred preserved chickens and weird preserved food.

Other Sports (Tiger's Back) / Re: The Royals
« on: April 03, 2024, 07:25:54 PM »
What usually happens in situations where a team leaves a city? What percent of fans say "eff this, I'm a Cardinals fan now" vs. what percent say "I can't turn off my Royals fandom"? And what if they change their names, does that change the percentages? Also, it's rough ridin' baseball, so how many fans just stop following the sport all together? It's pretty tough to be invested in baseball if you're not watching a team regularly.
I haven't watched a royals game on TV in a couple of years (besides randomly being at a bar/restaurant where it's on TV) due to the whole Bally's fiasco and have definitely lost interest in the sport.

I still go to a couple of games a year but if they left I would probably never watch another baseball game in my life.

Where should the chefs go on the Kansas side? Obvious suggestion is the legends in kck but what if JoCo decides to whip their big ole schlong out and say "I'm the captain now"

Put arrowhead 2.0 out where the great mall of the great plains was?

Scrap the office/apartment plans for brookridge country club and stick 2.0 at 435 and Antioch?

Looking at google maps there is a bunch of undeveloped land near K-10/Renner/Ridgeview.

Maybe put it just across state line from Loch Lloyd so that Mahomes can drive a golf cart to work?

The fake argue with tang only to drop a perfect alley oop from mid court with 1 min left in a tied game in overtime.... WOW

I just remember chest bumping my bros as we are all screaming WTF just happened. Just pure pandemonium when it happened.

And that was just the icing on the cake from a great game by nowell.

Here’s the thing, these people have a lot of the most valuable resource on the planet, time. It’s not an industrial efficiency issue. They work 24/7/365. And the irl last thing they want is someone taking something from that.

So they are bored and would rather drive out to a pasture to check on the cows than fly over them with a drone?

25
Also made me think of when I was hunting a WIHA honey hole a couple of miles from the cat ranch on opening weekend and saw a small plane circling over me a while back.

When I was leaving an older gentleman with a poney tail pulled up next to me and let me know he was watching me and thanked me for staying on the WIHA land and not going onto his adjacent 200 acres of CRP that is absolutely loaded with pheasants (all the birds I flushed would fly directly into his land) and no hunting signs. He explained that he was "re wilding" his land etc.

I've seen him a couple of times since then either flying over or just driving by.

I bet he would love the crap out of a drone.
