Ask me them!

Nutrition/workout routines/supplements... there are no dumb questions

Now, we all know the average goEMAW.com'er is already maintaining an elite level of fitness... this has been shown in several studies.

But even the elite fitness connoisseur can have trouble keeping up with the ever-evolving health industry.

Let's change some lives!

So I'm back on p90x after a 1 year hiatus.  My company paid for a round of indoor soccer.  Thinking about substituting this night for plyo.  Think that's the best substitute?  Maybe the cardio/kenpo x days?

Do you focus more on nutrition than exercise?

Think as nutrition as the foundation and the house as the exercise. You can't build the house without the foundation.

To answer your question directly though, I wouldn't sub soccer for plyo's. Plyo's are good. I would sub it for your usual cardio. I don't do much, if any "pure" cardio though. There are many better ways to burn fat.

Seems like recovery time after a lifting workout is pretty important. What is the correlation between recovery time and muscle soreness? If the soreness goes away can you be considered recovered?

FOLLOW UP QUESTION!!: If you worked a particular area one day and are still recovering from that workout can you work out a different muscle group the next day without worrying about over doing it?

Recovery time is very important. In fact, you can actually lose muscle gains and/or hurt yourself by lifting too much and/or too often. Many people fail to realize that recovery days should be just as important as your workout days. Muscle soreness is a fairly good indicator of muscle recovery.  Soreness is good. Soreness after a week is not so good.

You can definitely set up your workout plans so that you are targeting different muscle on different days. This is how it should be done. You have to be careful, though, to make sure you aren't repeatedly using the same muscles without knowing it. This will nullify your gains by overworking the muscle. An example is doing a bunch of bench press on Monday and then doing shoulder presses and tricep kickbacks on Tuesday. This is going to overwork your triceps because all of those exercises utilize them.

Make me a beginner workout plan for a 32 year old guy who can do 20 pushups who refuses to go to the beefcake free weight area of my gym but wants to get studlier.

What are the best ways to avoid getting shin splints for an overweight Canadian friend of mine who likes to occasionally (but not obsessively) run?

Also, he is getting really good at swimming lately, do you know if he is too old to go back and try out for the Manhattan Marlins?

Buy an Xbox Kinect and Your Sport Fitness Evolved 2012.  Do a full body workout with the Boot Camp and various arms/legs/glutes/abs/back workouts.  Workout for an hour on M/W/F.  In the morning for breakfast, have a mixed berry smoothie with fish oil, whey, greens and yogurt or kifer.  Drink whey protein with skim milk right after your workout.  Don't eat like crap.

That's the plan I'm on and I feel GRRRRRRREAT!  :dunno:
