my wife is working on her dissertation and needs a mobile word processor.  what is one that is cheap, lightweight and won't crash and burn in the middle of her chapter 4?

Chrome OS is merging with Android, so I could never condone a chrome book in good faith.  Alienware is probably the funniest response yet.  iPad with everything Saul said is way beyond price range.

My suggestion is a low end dell/toshiba/acer with an i3/i5 without an SSD.  Price range is $200-$450 and would be better than anything else suggested already

how much has been spent on getting to this dissertation?  Doesn't seem like the time to go cheap, go find the ultra book she likes typing on the best.

I mean KK is smart, so I would hope this all hasn't been done and saved on 1 computer. Or a single flash drive. But on multiples, and hopefully in some cloud service, like Dropbox, Google Drive, One Drive etc. I'm sure KK has conveyed this to his wife.

My point being, if KK has made sure there isn't a single point of failure, you should be able to go pretty cheap.

I bought an acer 2 years ago for right around $400 that I like. Has held up pretty good.

Recently replaced it with a macbook air/imac combo.
