The New Joe Montgomery Birther Pit / Re: Trump's Wall

The bollards, or “slats,” as he prefers to call them, should be painted “flat black,” a dark hue that would absorb heat in the summer, making the metal too hot for climbers to scale, Trump has recently told White House aides, Homeland Security officials and military engineers.
...
Trump has demanded Department of Homeland Security officials come to the White House on short notice to discuss wall construction and on several occasions woke former secretary Kirstjen Nielsen to discuss the project in the early morning
...
Trump often brought up the construction of the barrier at unrelated meetings, and aides learned to bring prep books — and even sketches — to address his questions.
...
Trump frequently delved into the minutiae of contracts and suggested that some of his friends in New York would have ideas on how to build it faster
...
Approved barrier designs include a flat-panel anti-climbing surface that has been field-tested, but the president doesn’t like the way it looks either, arguing that sharp spikes would appear more intimidating.

Trump told one group of aides that the metal points would cut the hands of climbers and function as a more effective deterrent.

I miss the old internet.

In retrospect, what was nice about YTMND was that it existed in a time before “content monetization” was a thing people cared about, and that lack of incentive made YTMND less of a horse race and more of a large-scale collaboration. Now, of course, large platforms like YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook are full of “creators” trying to “monetize” their “brand.” This is not in itself a problem, but it’s made riding trend waves an omnipresent, never-ending competition. YTMND was people trying to put their own spin on jokes, for no reason other than that it made them laugh.

I learned most of these via the internet or when I was three years old, but have confirmed with the field guide.

Mourning Dove
Blue Jay
American Crow
Carolina Chickadee
House Sparrow
American Robin
Northern Cardinal
Red-winged Blackbird
Brown-headed Cowbird
House Finch
American Goldfinch

Wow!  Brown-headed cowbirds are few and far between north of Oklahoma.  My favorite brood parasite.

According to my field guide, the edge of their year round range runs right through Kansas. So, that makes sense. I'm in Ohio, which falls squarely within their year round range.

I spotted on of these recently. White-crowned Sparrow.

Dax is a Russian asset. There's just no other explanation.

The $2000 US drug probably works much better than the $8 Australia drug.

There seems to be consensus that China selling US bonds would neither be very good for China nor affect the US all that much.

No one's going to read any of it. These people will just be solicited for campaign donations.
