Is the "Big 12's" goal to get schools that can get their team # up but that won't beat the good current teams, or do get the best teams out there, like from other big conferences?  If it's the latter, and they don't care about their current teams getting beat by new teams, they should be pitching to other big conference teams that they could come in and whip ass by laying out how former big 12 schools have largely floundered against new competition, while a place like TCU can roll into the big 12 and win a football 'ship.

What I'm getting on the shag is that one of two things may be the case.  Emphasize "may be":

1) Go to 14, we are considering it to be the most stable and lucrative option, and we want a lock in to 2030 on the $$$ increase for an additional five years.  So, like the ACC, we help justify the increase by promising rights for an additional 5-6 years.

2) Go to 12 and we're confident that in 2024, we can negotiate a better deal in the new media environment like the Big Ten feels.

Best decision: add 2 or 4 power 5's (preferably AU, ASU, CU, Utah or CSU)
2nd best decision: stay at 10 for now if you can't add any power 5's
Worst decision: add 2 or 4 mid-majors.

There are 17 teams interested or whatever, but here's what the market realistically values:

BYU has a decent ESPN contract

Houston, UConn, Cincy, and Temple are Group A members of the AAC, therefore, they are valued higher than all of the other AAC members.  If two of them leave that conference, the media rights contract is voided.  If one of them plus any other school leaves, the contract is voided.  ESPN put enough value on those four that if any combination happens where one of them leaves, the whole contract is done.

So, you can take any MWC school, any CUSA or MAC school, or any other AAC school for that matter, and you can probably put them way down the list.  Your 2-4 are coming from those five listed above.  All of them are Tier 1 Carnegie schools, except BYU (Tier 2), and they are all ranked in the US News Top 200.

"Fun" game to play: Assign each school on that list a number and run them through a random number generator twice. The two numbers you get are the two teams for your new Big XII. Then rank your new Big XII on a scale of 1 (burn this crap down, I'd rather be in the Mountain West) to 10 (Holy crap! Suck my nutsuck SEC/Big 10).
