another thread about firing currie
« on: February 26, 2017, 12:26:25 PM »
i wish i could be more positive, but i'm hearing that we probably won't.  My source is the biggest individual donor to the athletic department whose name does not appear on a building at the university, some of you can easily figure out who it is. As of this morning this is what he believes -

Currie - Currie absolutely wants to make his mark hiring the next football coach and feels as if the facility improvements have him in a good position. According to my friend, money will not be an issue, he has $$$ commitments from several big donors. BTW, unlike most on GPC, the donors like the guy and have given him a pass for hiring Weber but won't be so charitable if the successor to Snyder is anything less than a "homerun" hire. There is, and has been, a short list of candidates to replace Coach Snyder and BV is not on the list (too much baggage).

Weber - A trip to the NCAA Tournament buys him another year but anything less than that and they part ways. At the time Weber was hired Underwood was not a serious candidate because he was seen as part of Frank's "gang" (fair or not) and the university had to distance itself from some off the court issues that were associated with the previous staff. Evidently there was a shady, although highly successful and influential, amateur coach from the Kansas City area whose dealings were threatening to compromise the program as well as the university.

The basketball short list consists mainly of Henson and some top assistants from P5 schools. Currie, like every other AD who's coach is on the hot seat, puts out feelers to the agents of possible candidates and has been told that Archie Miller is waiting for the Ohio State job to open and Steve Forbes' has his sights set on a couple of SEC jobs that could open up in the next year or two.

Wildcard - The wildcard in all of this is the possibility of Currie taking another job, which my guy thinks is unlikely. If he were to take another job nothing would change until a new AD is in place. If the basketball team doesn't make the tournament, and Weber is retained, that almost certainly means that Currie has agreed to another job.

Also, some guy on GPC claims that Currie is a leading candidate for the Arizona job (saying "Source = A") ...and apparently there is a news article someplace saying that, so maybe his A source is that he reads the newspaper, but whatevs.  I was delighted to see that, and it lends a little context to the quote that sys added in the OP that seems to reference Currie leaving (he apparently interviews all the time, as the rumors go).

Oh, I've seen it plenty of times.  Even referenced it in one of the recent testy westy threads.  I was lol'n given the context of the thread and not remembering if the guy in the background analyzing the confrontation was Currie or Gilbert.  Imagining that it was Currie is much funnier.

I didn't see anything on the basketball board for about the last 2 years, save for the last month when I checked back as I started to smell oscar Weber's blood in the water.

It's time for you to make your presence felt again, starting (god willing) next wednesday at the sprint center.

Arizona AD job was filled Friday by guy from Central Michigan.

That poster has been posting crap like this from their "source" every 4-5 months and is always wrong.  They wait just long enough for everyone to forget the last time they posted something wrong, then make another "source" post.

If I had to bet on it, I'd bet they make post like that just to screw with people.
I got a guy on the other line about some white walls

Every place that Currie would leave for has money, and his specialty is acquiring money. He literally has no other skill that an AD should have. Think of who would hire Currie, and then whether or not he would view that job worth leaving KState for.

at some point it becomes about finding a job better than not having a job.

Forgive the stupid question. When he says Henson does he mean Steve Henson?
