Yeah, J-Mart nails it.  Has he ever coached basketball in his life or does that matter?

it really doesn't.  if he can get players and get them to play hard, they'll be fine.

past examples indicate that's it's not easy for guys without college experience to get players, but keeping the neck's best asst. was a good start.

Steve Alford had to pay his dues for 8 years at coastal and directional schools before landing the Iowa gig. Then again, he wasn't "the mayor."

Hoiberg = Shitberg?
Cyclone fans express disappointment in new B Ball hire.
I seriously lolled at that.

But seriously wtf? I mean, Frank's resume pre-KSU looks like Larry Brown's compared this guy.
I once blew clove smoke in a guy's face that cut in front of me in the line to KJ's.

What would be the K-State equivalent of this? Michael Bishop being hired as OB's OC?

I think the K-State equivalent is exactly what everyone fears the most... Sean Snyder is named head football coach :ohno:

It got me excited.

He's (otzelberger) taking over the Associate Head Coach position with a big raise, it's been a done deal for a couple hours now. Nurse is going back to the Energy and Grayer will not join staff.

good choices all around, though lol @ grayer getting shoved out for the other exstar w. no exp.  two assts and dobo to hire.  will be interesting.

Great Hire

1. If Grayer, Nurse, and Hoiberg are at ISU, then many of the good in-state players will stay here.
2. I bet he runs an up-tempo offense which will help with ticket sales (remember Hilton Magic?) and recruiting.
3. You can’t win over the long-term in Ames without loving ISU.

He may not have coaching experience, but there simply was not a better hire out there.

The best equivalent would've been hiring Henson after Wooly.  Except Henson had actually been a basketball coach.  Of course he would've had no one on staff like Otzelberger to keep around, but still.  Hilarious choice for the Cyclones, and leave it to Cyclone fans to be pleased with the hire.

Iowa State has reconfirmed itself as the worst head coaching job in the Big 12.

pffft.  gary thompson (legend) clarified this in an extended pre-hire talking point.  15+ coaches inquired, including coaches with 6-8 tourney appearances.

If people were to follow me (@Haverhill40) on Twitter, you'd have known I was at the press conference where Fred Hoiberg became the Head Men's Basketball Coach at Iowa State. I will have pictures shortly.
