he really nailed it....
MANHATTAN, Kansas
Stadium experience: The Big 12's best. LHC Bill Snyder Family Stadium is a great place for college football, because of the fans. It sits in a massive parking lot that K-State fans have turned into a tailgating paradise. The aroma and the revelry is superb, with everyone decked out in purple. The stadium is loud, the fans close and the Wildcats usually tough.
Where to eat: Anywhere in Aggieville, six square blocks of restaurants, bars, retail and businesses, catering not just to the college crowd but to Manhattan citizens. Remnants of K-State's pep band go through Aggieville eateries (and elsewhere in Manhattan) on the Friday night before games, playing KSU fight songs.
What to do: Outside of football, Manhattan is not a tourist destination. But the main campus, about a mile south of the football stadium, is beautiful. KSU's original football home, World War I Memorial Stadium, sits in the heart of campus, with great old architecture. It remains the home of KSU soccer, lacrosse and rugby. Adjacent is Ahearn Field House, KSU's grand old gymnasium which is still used for volleyball but hasn't been the home of basketball since 1987.
Why go? The Flint Hills are scenic. Manhattan is a city of hills and trees and creeks. Downtown Manhattan is straight out of Norman Rockwell. “Back to the Future” could have been filmed in Manhattan. It's the kind of place you sort of soak up. Then game day arrives, and the atmosphere is world-class.
