Clayton Custer Recruiting Story

A+ Source:

"He was going to commit with K-State if Underwood got the job. Frank also offered him at South Carolina. He loved Undy. He also had a baseball offer at K-State. When Weber got the job, he was interested to talk with him, but Weber NEVER picked up the phone!"

Pfft, oscar had bigger priorities at the time, like making sure Angel would stay for the next 3 years.

i did a ton of analysis on this player- went to watch a bunch of his games the past two years, broke down untold amounts of tape on him.  bottom line is myself and the guys who work for me all agreed that while he appears to have an average game, he's just not cut out for high D1 level hoops.  we sent our player portfolio to oscar and staff, like we do for all kids we analyze and he picked up the phone and called me that same afternoon.  we talked for about an hour or so on the player and i highly recommended that he pass on this one.  oscar agreed.

what a lot of you guys don't see, or understand, is that there's an assload of decision points that go into offering a player.  this kid just didn't have enough.

so while it's fun to sit here and bash oscar at every given opportunity, none of you are half the coach he is and to any informed individual, you just make yourselves sound ignorant.

Huge mistake by pisspants and oscar, here.  This kid could have picked up right where Spradling left off.

i appreciate your candor but i'm telling you- the kid just doesn't have what it takes.

i'd love to share my player portfolio on custer but have signed NDA's that won't let me.  so- you'll just  have to take my word on it.

He vaguely said "no dice."  What is it about his game, specifically?  I don't care what the portfolio says; when you have the opportunity to sign the next Will Spradling, you sign him.

when you have put in as much time on these assessments as clams has, your opinion deserves respect.

Custer is really overrated. He is too small to compete with D1 athletes.

He is a slightly better version of Will Spradling.
