Annoying Things at Your Office
« on: May 17, 2016, 11:25:30 AM »
Not really hilarious, more like so sad that I am laughing.

We tried to use GoTo Meeting on Friday but the app is no longer supported because our operating system is too old. But there is a work around - you can use the web based version on Google Chrome....but we don't have Google Chrome on the conference room computer.

It would take about 10 seconds to put google chrome on the conference room computer.

I would not be surprised if an IT department still clinging to Windows XP does not grant its users admin rights to the conference room computer.

So now I have to call GoTo Meeting and ask them if they have a work around that doesn't involve us updating our operating system or installing Chrome.  And then threaten to use another service if they don't have any work around.

I'm assuming that would involve installing something so probably not.

Can you use Google hangouts without Chrome?

The organization for which I work just switched to a Google platform two weeks ago.  It's taking me some time to figure out some of the document formatting capabilities.

It would take about 10 seconds to put google chrome on the conference room computer.

Well GoTo Meeting does have a mobile app, but that doesn't really help for things where I need to share my screen.

Hmmmm, Well I don't think we want our contractors to see the look on all our people's faces as they look at me wearing my phone on my forehead.

Go buy a new computer and use your phone as a hot spot so you can use GoToMeeting.

The amount of time your company has had you spend trying to figure out how to make it work is ridiculous!

There is a new feature in IE that blocks the downloading of Chrome.  You need Chrome to download Chrome.

I ended up using Firefox to download Chrome. Then the people on our side of the meeting decided they needed an extra 15 minutes for a pre-meeting meeting so we had to delay the start of the meeting by 15 minutes. Just now got out of the post-meeting meeting.

There was already a fire in our building a couple years ago and that didn't get us new computers, so I am not sure what you can do.
