Did you ever birth a two headed cav? My grandpa did and I wanted to see if this is a common thing. He's got a picture of it at the farm and it's really creepy.

How many relatives have lost body parts to an irrigation system?

What is the go-to "farm accident" story in your family?

one of the cowboys that worked for my dad was using the feed truck (it's like a big dump truck but it's full of cow food and it has this thing on the side that spits it out into the cows bowl) and the thing that spits it out the side was clogged up or something so he had his hands in the bicycle chain part and it started going and pulled his glove through the sprockets and ripped his fingers off. my dad later went out to the truck and had to work the chain back and forth to get the glove out and get the fingers out of the glove but they were like hamburger so they couldn't re-attach them. the guy drove to where my dad was and told him he was going to the hospital before going to the hospital because he didn't want to get in trouble or something. I was all, "wtf, why didn't you just go to the hospital!?" but he was like, "HOWDY HOWDY HOWDY I'M A TOUGH COWBOY!"

Do cows over eat, or are they self regulating?

they'll usually eat everything you put in their bowl every day so I bet they would if given the chance. if they are just out there like in the field they seem to do ok managing their weight though so I guess yes.

Tell me about crop insurance and whether it's actually true that farmers can get paid for not planting crops, cause I am just baffled by this.

we have some land that we don't plant crops on called crp that we get a check for every year for doing nothing. sometimes when there is no rain we actually get to let the cows eat it and still get paid. there is a ton of huge fat checks our ranch, my dad, his dad, other corporations they have have cashed for basically just having shitty weather. like huge fat checks some years. it really is a racket that shouldn't be legal.

not me personally but my dad has seen them. ours have always been born dead like that though. there's a stuffed one in the meade county museum. pretty awesome to check out as a little kid.

tell us a calving story, plz.

one time a cow couldn't push out the baby and just its front or back feet were sticking out and my dad hooked a chain to the feet and hooked it up to his truck and pulled on it trying to be kind of gentle but it ripped the legs off the baby cow and he then had to shoot the mother cow.

A) have cows and land
B) have bad weather
C) get fat stacks

that's legitimately all there is to it. if you have only medium bad weather you have to have crop insurance though. if the weather is super bad the gov. just declares it an emergency or something and makes it rain.

only the little ones that I had to feed with a bottle before school. most of them died though because I did a subpar job looking after them.

yes to personalities but mostly only the ones that are pieces of crap. like you know that one over there always tries to charge at me and kill me. when you are a little kid this is pretty common. as an adult most of them don't mess with you.

How many chickens would I need to keep a family of four in fresh eggs daily?

a good hen will lay about 300 eggs a year.  there's some seasonality though, so most days all the hens will lay, but at times (winter mostly), none of them will.  some of the more decorative breeds lay less, figure maybe 200 per year (or some hardly lay at all, like the game breeds).

anyways, you can calculate from there how many to feed your family.  knowing how big you are, i wouldn't want to guess how many eggs you eat per day.
meanwhile, france appears to have made a socially liberal, business-friendly technocrat its emperor.

steve - I'm concerned about how many animals you've killed, or seen killed, and are still a functioning member of society.
