There are usually no direct free kicks or penalties.  I haven't played with this group though so there is a chance they might be weirdos that would do that.

I was recently invited to play in adult league myself. Funds are extremely low right now, though. So it's gonna have to wait. Bummer.

Are we talking about a legit 6 on 6 or so pickup game or one of those old stadium pick up games where there are 45 people just chasing the ball wherever it goes?

Not the 6v6 league.  Probably not 45 people.  It is at Anneberg, but I've never played with these guys.  I think/hope they skew a bit older than the Old Stadium crowd.

I barely remember playing against you in the league because I was drunk usually.  I am under the assumption that you will be sober and are better than me regardless, but my strategy of playing D and then making the occasional run when I had a pretty clear path hid a bunch of my deficiencies pretty well.

Yes.  This is my strategy.

Other goals:

1. play a 1-2 with someone
2. score a goal (unlikely)
3. 3 steals
4. two evasions of a defender
5. No puking

1-2's were played
Did not score a goal, did get an assist
3 steals happened
Two evasions of a defender happened
No puking occurred

A successful first step.  Had a guy freak on me for going in on a 50-50 ball and winning it.  His punk ass ended up dumped and started jabbering about pins in his shoulder.  I got a yellow card in spirit from the game elders who said it was no contact.  I saw the guy not pull out of tackles several more times in the game, but I dialed back the gattuso to more of a Danielle de Rossi level.

UPDATE!

had about 50 people out there last wed so after a bit of muddling through with a huge field and too many people, we split up on to two fields.  The practice field all the way back in the southwest corner of Anneberg was an absolute swamp, but the play was still pretty good.

I caught a decent second wind about an hour and a half in after experiencing a lot of trevails after about the first 15-30 minutes due to the condition of both the field and my body.

I scored two goals, one of which was an extremely lucky cross that I over hit and lofted in, the second goal was an absolute beauty.  I took down a ball on my thigh then hit it a half volley and beat the keeper short post.  It was really rough ridin' awesome.

I had to leave before the game was over because I had to meet some friends out for dinner at Bourbon & Baker, but it was a very rewarding meal to say the least.

What day is today?  Tuesday.  That means only one more day until evening pick-up soccer game.  There will be some challenges this week as the wife will be out of town, but I have made arrangements to have the kids move in with me to my mom's basement for the next three days so no biggie.

In other news, I had a pretty terrible time playing at the Old Stadium on Sunday.  Turns out these guys are much better at soccer and in much better shape than the old dudes.  Also, there were way too many people playing in a small space so essentially you had about 1 second to touch the ball and then have someone kick you in the shins.  Not even enough room to really run.  I will try going out there Saturday morning to see if that is a bit better in terms of people/space/shin ratio.

The competition is pretty fierce tbh but my team is top half of the table with 2 wins and 3 draws (zero losses)
