Road, Trek Madone 4.7. I'm taking it out in the awful heat today, been a couple weeks.

When I was a kid/early teen, my dad was way into all types of biking.  His friend and him rode from manhattan to denver one summer, I cant even imagine doing that.  Anyway, some of my favorite memories are from boing to the ski places in colorado in the summer and riding the lifts up the mountains, and riding back down.  Perfect biking experience.  He had a trek 3000 and 8000, I think, and I rode the 3000.

I have a trek 850 or something right now, and barely used it in the 7 or 8 years I've had it, but im planning on riding it to class this coming semester, so maybe ill get back into biking then.

I now ride my bike every day for part of my commute. Most cyclists are the worst people alive. They generally scare me more than cars. idiots with fixies are the worst of the worst.

Yeah, it's ridiculously stupid to ride without one.

I've only crashed hard once (sand when taking a corner), and while i would have been ok without my helmet at that time, the gloves really saved my hands.

first off: it's illegal to ride on the sidewalk. that's why there are roads.
2nd off: wear a helmet
3rd off: if you buy a trek mountain bike i'm going to punch you in the dick the next time i see you. (ben ji)

You should wear it on your head, not your butt.  You might not be so lucky in the future.

FINALLY, it takes some helmet and sidewalk smack to get asava in this thread.

Now asava, tell me what type of bike I should by that is cheap and will serve my purposes.

Also how can it be illegal to ride bikes on the sidewalk? I did it all the time as a kid and the fuzz never hassled me.

you should ask mellis if he knows of anyone getting rid of a bike or to help you look for one in kc. if you aren't going to spend much try and stick to specialized or kona. would be pretty cool if you could find a 29er. did a quick check and didn't see much.

this is pretty sweet. might be able to lowball him...

what do you mean stupid?  Clothing or gear or what? What city are you in by the way?

I've been raving about Big Poppi in Manhattan here.  Good bikes at good prices.  The mechanics know their stuff.

Worst rough ridin' mechanics in the region, and owners who know nothing about cycling.  Pathfinder isn't the best show in the world, but the guys there know wtf they are doing.  If they can't handle it, drive to Capps in Topeka or to one of many shops in KC that know their stuff.  If you want your bottom bracket threads stripped out, by all means, go to Big Poppis.

I bet he wants one with the wheels and pedals attached.  I'm going to insist on that when I buy a bike.

LOL, like I'd buy one for $200 when wire-cutters are like $15 and all the bikes on campus are totally put together and ride-ready.
