Haha. Thanks then!

They really took off over the past 2 months or so. Been pretty happy with them.

Probably make some hot sauce and dehydrate/grind the rest up for shakeable fire.

Don't usually put anything more than habaneros or serranos in our salsa.

Sounds good. Going to make any hot shine with any of them? When I was on vacation I had jalapeño margarita that was pretty interesting.

Hadn't thought about in a beer...

May actually put one in some of our honey, though. See how that turns out. No idea how long it would take to impart the flavors...

So who has started their seedlings already? Starting some seedlings this week (couple varieties of lettuce/kale/chard and then some tomatoes/peppers/cucumbers).

I am also going to attempt to grow some sweet corn for the first time this year. Planning to plant a 10 x 10 area, will plant the seeds in 4x4 rows a couple of weeks apart so i have fresh corn for at least a month. Any advice on the corn planting?

Probably starting seedlings this weekend. The few months off was nice, but now its back to work!

Sidenote: planted these bad boys last fall and surprisingly warm temps here and there have helped them rear their beautiful heads. So excited...

Fuji, Gala, and Honey Crisp

what rootstock?  you should plant a lot more, but not just dessert apple varieties.  i heard somewhere that in decent apple country you can expect about 5 tons of apples/acre in a good year.
I would have to look at the rootstock paper work.  I really don't have room for many more and I only like desser apple varieties so no need to plant others.  I realize these 3 are pretty similar but I like them.  I don't expect to get any thing from these trees for at least 3 years they were bareroot and not very big.

How have your apple trees been doing? I really want to plant a single honeycrisp tree but I'm pretty sure you need to plant a couple next to each other for pollenization or something.

Was looking back at my old pics from this thread and the garden is way behind from past years due to the cold weather.

Does that chicken wire actually work? we've tried it but it always ends up getting messed up. we use chilli powder mixed with soap and warm water for the bugs and put up a scarecrow this year (the kids had fun with it)

growing roma and beefsteak from seed along with the following types of chiles:

serrano
numex 6-4
numex big jim
costeno amarillo
alma paprika
spanish piquillo

nmsu has a chile pepper institute on campus and you can go and buy seed packets of rare types of chiles for cheap (they sell online and ship as well). Once I get better at this I'm gonna try growing the insanely hot/difficult varieties, i.e. ghost peppers.

nuevo mexico soil is kinda garbagio and i have limited yard space so i'm growing most of it in pots with a few in the ground. will report back with pics later this summer

For the record, ghosts are easy as hell to grow. As are Scorpions and Reapers!

Just getting them from seed to seedling/transplanting to ground is the most trying. After that its smooth sailing! Tomatoes always seem much more fragile in the early stages, IMO.
