Essentially Flyertalk / Serious surgery question...
« on: February 27, 2019, 08:12:32 PM »
Okay, so I know there are a bunch of super smart and handsome college grads here, I just don't know if any of you have medical degrees of any sort. But, I'm gonna ask for some assistance anyway.

So, the "serious" part of this is just that I need serious advice and/or knowledge. The surgery itself isn't life threatening. Go ahead and exhale now.

I'm looking at shoulder surgery #4. I'm only 35. This one would be a Proximal Biceps Tenotomy. And I COULD technically do without this one. But, quality of life, as explained to me today, would/could greatly increase with this procedure.

I won't go into any more medical history before I find out if anyone here has subject expert knowledge from education or even personal experience. But with 3 prior surgeries on this shoulder, the file is, uh, long. And distinguished ;)

Unless I have to work that weekend, I should be in Morgantown for the Cats visit this year, and was wondering if there were any gE'ers I need to find!

Seriously, would be cool to meet any of you making it over to the Mountain State this year...

Kansas State Football / Back to School Special- WVU vs Alabama breakdown
« on: August 31, 2014, 11:58:18 AM »
I'd like to do this every week, but I don't want to clog up the board with non-KSU analysis. We'll see how it goes. Anyway, here goes week one!

First, the numbers...

Final Score: WVU - 22     Alabama - 33

Total yds:        393                  538
Pass yds:         365                 250
Rush yds:        28                   288
Total plays:      69                     82
ToP:                22:13              37:47
T/O:                 0                      1(Int)

Scoring: TEAM        QTR             FINAL
                         1    2    3     4
             WVU     3   14    3    3     23
             BAMA   3    17   10   3     33

Some important WVU Stats...

Passing:     Clint Trickett: 29/45      64.4%      8.1YPA
Receiving:  Kevin White:  9/143
Rushing:    Rushel Shell:  10/38

Some observations:

WVU came into the game as staggering 26.5 point underdogs, and I imagine most people thought that was a bit high, but not far off. A final score of 33-23 doesn't begin to tell the story. I won't go into a ton I details, but suffice it to say it was just as much Alabama playing poorly as it was WVU playing pretty well. Many mistakes you aren't used to hearing 'Bama make, 'Bama made. False Starts, timeouts to begin drives due to miscommunications, and many others (including what appears after only a one game view of this roster that Alabama is not quite the powerhouse they're made out to be) add up to a somewhat poor showing by the #2 ranked Tide.

Combine that with many good things from a seemingly much improved WVU squad and you have yourself this roller coaster if a season-opener. Some good from West Virginia: first and foremost Clint Trickett looks healthy and is without a doubt the leader he was expected to be after transferring from Florida State. He showed great accuracy and poise, albeit with a few errant throws that proved very costly, as well as an even more costly intentional grounding. Rushel Shel, a transfer from sPitt, showed some great signs even though the numbers don't look like it. Kevin White had an outstanding game, out muscling Alabama's DB's multiple times, including the end zone.

The negatives though, would cost West Virginia a chance at a monumental upset. Dropped passes, at least 5 or 6, swung momentum Alabama's way time and time again, just after WVU would get drives going. A Daryl Worley interception in the second half returned deep into the Tide's territory resulted in zero points. Pinning Alabama in their own reeds one with 3rd and long, only to watch them drive the length of the field to score added to the mounting disappointment.

As disappointing as the outcome may have been, this team seems to have a lot going for it. They just need to put it all together for four whole quarters and allow fewer stupid mistakes.

Ok, all done. Thanks for reading! TSC, and all, right?!

Kansas State Football / Gems from the WVU/KU game thread
« on: November 18, 2013, 01:41:34 PM »
Taking Dlew's great idea and giving you an insider's view of the atrocity that was KU's first conference win in 28 tries, I bring you some quotes from the "official Kansas game thread" over at WMITC, like you didn't know that's where the best stuff is...

Not going to be as polished as Dlew, going by quarters or anything, just good old fashioned meltdowns in chronological order! Here we go:

Typical start to a Mountaineer thread here, as expected:
Quote
Only 2 games left in the season. Lets make a statement today in Lawrence.

LETS GO....

With the immediate reply:
Quote
MOUNTAINEERS!

Bold statement here early, given our current situation:
Quote
Best part of early games for WVU? ...Not having to watch crappy Big 10 football. Go Mountaineers!

Lack of fans noticed quickly:
Quote
Did they just show the Jayhawks only 5 fans in that tv spot?
Quote
The Cadillac Touchdown Club is looking pretty sparse.

Lots of comments about Weis, starting early:
Quote
Weiss puts on about 30lbs a year. Man that guy is fat.

Good 'previous coach is better' smack:
Quote
Funny thing is Turner Gill , Kansas previous coach coaches at Liberty and they will have more at the game today most likely.

Then the real fun begins...
Quote
Christ almighty. This is a pathetic. We are in a battle with Kansas FOOTBALL.

and these types didn't take long either...
Quote
Kansas O is holding on every play, and we get called on the return. Freakin' homer refs.

Quote
If we lose to Kansas...
Immediate reply...
Quote
don't bother finishing the sentence

Someone makes a good point here, but the 'bama comment...
Quote
This team always plays to the level of the opposition. I don't get it. I really don't. Next year, we'll probably play competitive against Alabama then Towson will take us to town the following week. I don't get it.

Half of this thread is almost this exact post:
Quote
WTF ....
...
Quote
Another true freshman QB and a star RB about to have CAREER days against WVU.

WTF!!!

Quote
We're losing to a team coached by a guy who is two Twinkies away from being bedridden obese.

Quote
At least we have basketball to look forward to. ummm. i meant rifle
Quote
Rifle and women's soccer.

HALFTIME(ish)

Then this beauty:
Quote
If you were cursed.....
Would you choose weiss's gut or holgerson's hair.

After one of the worst INT's ever:
Quote
What could they be saying to Paul over the phone right now?

"OK…..don't do that."
Also, lots more "WTF?!"s

Oh, this is good:
Quote
Things happen......at least we held them to a TD.
as opposed to a double TD?  :dunno:

Quote
at least we beat bad teams in the big east.

Quote
I hear Christmas lights calling me.

"Hang me! Hang me!"
Only made funny b/c of this response...
Quote
--me and your Xmas lights have a lot in common
(Yes, I realize it's a suicide joke  :sdeek: )

Psychic post here:
Quote
I wonder if the 18 Kansas fans that actually went out to the game will rush the field after they finally win a conference game for the first time in 2 years.

Quote
This is frustrating. We're being Sodomized by Kansas.

Witty stuff here:
Quote
Rock Chalk Jayhawk! is the worst chant ever. EVER.

Funny:
Quote
does Iowa State have a terrible and/or inexperienced QB?

that is our only weakness

Quote
Evidently the Big 12 just beats each other up.

I can't even type that with a straight face.

Then, at 31-7, WVU scores and makes it look less terrible than it was, but still some more gems:
Quote
Dana just looked at his watch.... what does that mean????
Quote
He would like to know the exact time his coaching days at WVU died.

And to finish off the day, some more fat jokes:
Quote
Weis had gastrric by-pass a few years ago...what happened?
Quote
All kinds of people who have gastric bypass gain all their weight back. If you don't change the root of the problem, the problem persists.

You can relate that to WV football however you want.
Quote
His stomach has become self-aware and regenerated
Quote
Outcoached by the Jackie Gleson of the NCAA.

Sorry if this was too many quotes, but trust me, there were even more. I hope you all enjoyed them even half as much as I did!

Kansas State Football / Outsider Opinions…
« on: September 02, 2013, 09:02:50 PM »
Okay,  I can understand if this thread isn't welcome,  but I would really like to see what everyone here thinks about my Mountaineers match-up against Oklahoma this week. I forget your nickname for them here.

Anyway,  some real analysis/opinions would be great. Mods, feel free to delete this thread if it's not welcome.

TSC,  tho.
