I think you can buy bulk rectangle pizza from rays
i had the option for rectangle pizza every day for lunch in 3-5th grade. once went 3 weeks straight of it. will not buy, or eat, ever again.
-
Haven't seen the pizza pockets anywhere else though. Must be an education exclusive
-
jfc, you white midwesterners.
i had nothing to do with this other than bumping the other thread where i said i had nothing to do with this
-
CwCR dates back to pre-computer days.

I liked cherry kolaches more than cinnamon rolls. We also had cinnamon puffs, which were way worse than cinnamon rolls.
-

One of the best school lunches back in my day
-
Crispitos were good but occasionally I would get one that just tasted like absolute crap. It would happen like twice a year for me and would temper my excitement for crispito day.
-
do you, like, dip the cinnamon roll in the chili? i have never heard of this, but my interest is piqued.
def not a suburban chicago thing.

Crispitos are #1, unless they're #2

no dipping, you eat a delicious bowl of chili (with beans) accompanied by saltine crackers then enjoy the cinnamon roll for dessert.
I loved it but will admit the trash can in my elementary school caff was a rather remarkable sight at the end of chilli w/cinnamon roll day.

If you don't allow the two to intermingle in some fashion, you are missing out on the natural union of umami and sweet.

Confirmed dipper here.

The only time I have heard of this was when it was previously mentioned on this blog.

Interesting, but if you were supposed to dip, lunch trays wouldn't be divided.
-
Growing up we had chili with cinnamon rolls at least once a month at school. I never ever dipped. That's gross.
-
My method was/is to take a spoon full of chili then quick bite of CR. The savory chili and sweet CR in your mouth (at the same time) my god. It's a little slice of heaven Illini friends.
-
THE best of the best when it comes to school lunches. My hometown rolls were homemade too!
-
tf is the point if you're not going to have both the chili/cinni roll in your mouth at the same time? dip or gtfo.
-
You have to have the right kind of chili tho. I think your version of chili is wrong for this culinary delicacy. Don't use too many tomatoes you want more animal fat and beans than acidy matos IMO.

lunch trays are designed to handle a broad array of meals. They are not designed specifically for the chili/cinnamon roll 1-2 punch.

Tomatoes are particularly high in umami, though. I would suggest at least supplementing with tomato paste.

Don't argue with me.

You certainly are.

People in Kentucky don't understand this goodness. Chili and sticky rolls on Friday were the best. Heck I remember having several of these wonderful meals at KState in the dorms.
-
It is a true GOD combo. Growing up my mom always made chili + cinnamon rolls. Even now if I visit for Christmas/Thanksgiving she makes them. Just too damn good.
-
Not a fan of cinnamon rolls too much and not really chili either unless it's hormel from a can

Not liking cinnamon rolls is unfathomable.
-
I love cinnamon, I love rolls... Put them together and it's pretty meh. Too much butter maybe? I dunno
-
What an itch-manhattan dick holding contest this is.
-
The eff is a sticky roll? Let me guess you call a Pepsi a coke right?

We had both cinnamon rolls and cinnamon puffs. The cinnamon puffs could be called "sticky rolls" in some circles.

Those circles would be Wellington KS.

winfield > wellington
the festival winfield puts on makes wellington a ghost town every year
-
It was called crunchy munchy chili at my elementary school in Derby. It came with corn chips and cheese.
It made those Friday's feel like a holiday.

I went to a very small school through 4th grade (5 kids in my class small). We had one old and wonderful lunch lady. She was the best cook in the county. When the school closed, they made a cookbook with her recipes. She made the best chili and kolaches that have ever passed the mouth of a grade school child. You dipped if you knew what was good for you.
Gonna win 'em all!

weird thread

Thread makes me hungry.

I've read about those old 1 room school houses before, what was that time like?

Probably the second or third best fall time thread on this blog.
Side note: I am going to step my chilli game up, like a lot, this fall.

meh. at the end of the day, it's still chili. i just don't crave it that much.
i'm probably good for one 7 1/4 qt dutch oven's worth a year and that generally gets cooked around late november/early december when it first starts getting cold
i've tried all different kinds of recipes, adding sausage, chicken, shrimp, beans/no beans. it's chili.
i'm more intrigued about learning how to make a mean cinnamon role similar to those sold at dolce

Came to visit my parents (came up from the basement), and we had this for a casual din din tonight.
As good as I remembered.

Check yourself, Mikey.

I can never remember which is the best canned chili, Hormel or Wolf Brand?
-
Canned chili is an abomination. Make a giant pot and put it in the chili drawer of your fridge like a man.

-
the orange fat puck from canned chili is sublime
-
Guys, Hormel vs Wolf Brand was a trick question because all canned chili sucks. I'm concerned that anyone who settles for chili from a can may have already given up on life.
-
Canned chili is acceptable when used for making chili dogs.
Canned chili by the bowl for general eating, no way.
JMHO.
-
Hormel is a+

Guess how many posters in this thread are ugly
Would guess the hormel chili lovers on this blog are the most attractive.
