little kid sports
« on: July 19, 2016, 02:34:49 PM »
the absolute seriousness in which many adults my age take them is hilariously and sadly absurd. like, a bunch of 30-40 year old parents have all lost their collective god damn minds and live in a world where little kid sports define them and they are happy to risk actual adult friendships over it. it is absolutely dumbfounding. I'm talking about like 7 and 8 yr olds.

I don't get the notion that kids need to play sports nonstop.   I have buddies who have multiple games for each kid on a given day, one buddy with 2 kids (7 and 11) and they have sports EVERY day of the week.   It's ridiculous, for kids and parents.

I would expect that at the highest levels, gymnastics probably has crazier parents than any other sport. Especially women's gymnastics, where olympians are in their early teens.

if he gets involved in any kind of competitive sports play, it's going to blow your mind. I promise. it probably goes for things other than sports too like music and drama but my youngest is just starting to do those things so it's only a suspicion on my part. the sports stuff I'm sure about.

Most of my youth sports experiences have been pretty chill. Overall nice people and kids. Had an altercation with a crazy lady cop coach once but she was just crazy.

maybe so, but who cares?  you don't have to engage with them nearly as much as you would with a team sport.

Tennis parents, golf parents, swim parents, gymnastics parents are all much, much easier to deal with than a bad baseball/basketball/football parent because you don't have to carpool/associate/root with them if you really don't want to.

I don't get the notion that kids need to play sports nonstop.   I have buddies who have multiple games for each kid on a given day, one buddy with 2 kids (7 and 11) and they have sports EVERY day of the week.   It's ridiculous, for kids and parents.

We learned this lesson.  My son can't decide between soccer and baseball, fall or spring.  He wanted to play both.  So we did.  Won't do that again.  Game or practice 6 days a week.

One sport at a time from now on.

Others have that problem because they sign their kid up for competitive(and/or tournament) teams.  My daughter's non-competitive softball team played a team a few years ago that had a coach, whose sole responsibility was to pitch to the kids during the game(coach pitch league, obvsly).  They had a hitting coach and hitting practice every tues and thurs.  They had full team practices every Monday and Wednesdays and played games two days a week.  Their head coach was paid.  My daughter was 7 at that time.  Johnson County parents are by far the worst when it comes to this.

A few of the girls that play on my daughter's volleyball team did something similar for volleyball.  Now they play something like 6 games a week on the weekend and practice three nights a week for a paid coach.  Also, the parents had to sign 2-yr contracts with the team.  My daughter was 10 when that first popped up.  The teams cost the parents btwn $1600 and 2,600 a season.  One of my daughter's best friends lost two teeth last season and the dentist thinks its because she was hit in the face with the volleyball too often.

Serious sports parents are the worst.

kids shouldn't be playing football imo
and people, in general, do dumb things and act stupid.  this isn't limited to parents of children who play team sports.

How does a 3 year old play golf?

like any other person except shittier

and not 18 holes

This might be where I'm getting lost.  Do they have child size courses? Most 3yr olds can barely walk without tripping, let alone make contact with a ball and have it go in a general direction.

(obviously Lil sd is not your normal idiot 3yr old as well)

I meant to post this in my Tee Ball Grievances thread but last month my daughters 8&Under team lost in the 1st round of the post season tournament but then we had to play again because the other team was disqualified for playing a bunch of 9 year olds.  What kind of person?
