This is great news. Iran appearing as impotent as Russia against the best available tech. Excellent deterrent to wider war.

That’s horrible. It was a catastrophe when we lost him due to the media partner change. He’s tremendous.

Watched RRR over a few days and just finished. Holy crap!
I gave it a shot, but couldn’t make it all the way through.

I should add that a lot more people probably could retire by 70, but want to live a more luxurious lifestyle than necessary.
I agree. With no travel and a Midwest home, it’s more accessible.

Also, in KS people can afford homes and cars. I realize that KS doesn’t represent the majority of the US tho.

And what does military intervention and whatnot have to do with it? US companies can by TVs produced thru near slave labor (we shouldn’t), and sell them to americans either way.
I’m not saying it’s right, but our standard of living (the prices we pay for things, the performance of our markets, etc.) depends upon our military power.

Also, the only reason we can spend on a deficit is because of our military might.

Anyone who wants to drastically slash our military and wall ourselves off from the world better not bitch when you cannot afford new cars and homes, and can’t retire before 70.  Again,  I’m not saying those things are required for a happy life, but I think loads of people on the left and libertarians are naive.

Most people can’t afford new cars or retire before 70 as it is my man. No one is suggesting walling the US off from the world. Buying and selling would be just fine without a massive worldwide military apparatus.

To answer the question, I think we need more info on how much trade prices (and tariffs) are impacted by our military protection or threat. Do we get better deals because we prevent piracy and quash rebellions against our favored provider of goods?

How much of our prices on shipping are inflicted by our military might?  Do we get better prices?

If the above influenced prices and demand for goods purchased in dollars, and/or harmed our export ability, then would happen to the dollar if we had a 5% or 10% or 20% drop in global demand for dollars?

I suppose over time if the dollar was weak we’d build up our own manufacturing, but that might take a good chunk of years.

What’s the death toll in Gaza, Pete?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Very bad, though Israel is arguing that a 1:1 combatant to civilian death ratio exists. Definitely disputed by Al Jazeera.

Conservative Jews love the crap out of war.

I’ve often wondered what would happen if we just made our own iron dome, camped our fleet around our coasts and let the world do its thing elsewhere. No one would mess with the bull/eagle or they would get the horns/talons.

Isolationism is not a good thing. We've tried it before. You do realize that the U.S. Navy facilitates international commerce around the globe, right?

Ut what do you think would happen?
Hyper inflation would result from isolationism. Think $2K for a tv that costs $200 today.

Biden is pressing for a diplomatic solution, is this just a ruse or could the blood thirsty war hawk alpha overlord Biden be sincere?

If I were China I’d be watching this back and forth with Iran and Israel and penciling in the date of the Taiwan invasion.  Russia will probably not want to miss out and will take Moldova or something ridiculous like that.

Conflicting reports on X about whether any targets hit that would enrage Israel enough to do something really, really stupid.

LOADS of insider nods to game concepts.

I'm jizzed to check it out. What platform?
Prime. Second episode was fun as well.

I just finished episode 3. It hasn't loosened it's grasp on me from the get go. This is my niche (sci-fi, dystopian, etc.). I appreciate the high production value. That was to be expected as I think I saw the first trailer for it during the super bowl.
My 16 year old and I are loving the crap out of this. 3 episodes left. Pure gold.

Watched the first Fallout episode and if you liked the games you’ll love it. It’s very well done.

Think Drew has a type?

Seems weird to build up a program to be a perennial top 20 team, win a Natty, and bail for another program.  How often does that happen?  I don't think very often which is why I don't see Drew leaving Baylor.  Seems like he has a good thing going and he can be there as long as he wants with limited pressure from fans/AD/UP.
This is true but Baylor is arguably the "lowest profile" school to win a championship in recent memory. Villanova is probably the closest comparison?

Not sure school's profile matters anymore if you have NIL support + fan/AD/UP support.  I think this is why we have seen some hall of fame coaches retire in the last couple years.  I don't think Kentucky/KU/UCLA/Duke/Michigan State/North Carolina names will continue to hold the weight they used to.  The "name" is no longer needed to bring in great players and contend for titles.  The last two years represent the new NIL landscape, and I don't think many of us would have predicted not a single Blue Blood (UCONN is now BB though) making the FF.

2024 FF Teams:
Bama, Purdue, NC State, and UCONN

2023 FF Teams:
SDST, Miami, FIU, and UCONN

I think long term, NIL support will be more closely related to profile. Higher profile/blue bloods will win in the NIL/Portal era.
:nono:
NIL money will be king, program pedigree will be down the list of priorities for top recruits.  What WILL be a deciding factor is the number of players the program that land in the NBA.  McDonalds All-Americans don't go to Lawrentucky because of it's atmosphere or tradition, they go to KU because KU have a lot of players that make it to the NBA.  When the number of players KU puts in the NBA declines, so will recruiting.

I don't disagree with anything you're saying, I just expect that in the long term NIL money and program pedigree will be more closely related than they might be now.

The turning point will be when schools are able to pay their players directly. Schools outside of the Big 10 and SEC can keep up with NIL, but they can't keep up with tv money.
that tv money that you’re talking about is already spoken for elsewhere.  so for your scenario to play out, something will have to give.
Like leaving the NCAA or changing the NCAA’s required number of sports.

22
NIL is all that matters in getting players. If you pay the most, you will have a great team. Then you can afford to have a painful dork as a coach as long as he is good at teaching X and O.  Your school can be located in a crap hole and you’ll be just fine.

Put another way, great programs are purchased.

Calipari to Arkansas is being reported as a done deal by everyone.

CBS and others allege that Drew is on the short list for Kentucky. If he went, I wonder if Tang would want the Baylor job. My guess is that he would and that the interest would be mutual.

I kinda agree with clams that Drew is probably very happy at Baylor, having built them from nothing. BUT, what I fear is a situation where Drew agrees to leave it in the capable hands of his long time co-builder and friend Jerome Tang.
