The difference is edging is necessary if you don't want to have a clown yard

Vs a clown paint job, unless you are on it with a rag.

Even though I got myself a electric edger (much quieter) I hate they make my arms feel like they still vibrate hours later, and when it's hot out it's either wear shorts and RIP shins or wear pants and sweat like a mofo.

If you and a bud have a couple weekends to spare, rent the bobcat with hole digger attachment. Set posts one weekend and run boards the next.

I put up a fence myself on one house and had a contractor do it on another. I was much happier with the contractor's fence than I was with mine. It seems like the total cost of the contractor was about double the cost of the materials if I'd bought them myself. I never got a bid from a big fencing specialty company. I used some young dude that had been in the army for a few years and had been building decks and fences for a couple of years.

I originally thought this was advice for wackycat08 and got a great mental image of him trying to operate a loader

I got a KC Metro guy if you want a bid. He's a smaller operation. PM if interested.

Well, having another house built.  The market down here is crazy and almost every house in our area is receiving 10-15 bids in the first weekend they’re listed. Most home builders have waitlists 2-6 months out and then 11 months to build. But we got really lucky and our realtor found a builder who had a house framed that the original buyer backed out of. It was still early enough that we able to change out tile and other finishes.

We are probably going to be building again in like the next 2-5 years. Or just buying a new place. Hopefully our last home until we are old and my children force me into a nursing home against my will.

New house doesn't come with gutters.  Is that weird?  Seems weird to me.

most houses locally don't have gutters.  i think it's normal in low rainfall areas.
