Only way we MIGHT get Venables or Leavitt is if we attach a HCIW title and Bill will never agree to that because that would eliminate Sean. Another interesting name is bret bielema im not sure how I would feel about that. Ill bet on Blake Seiler being promoted.

What former cat player will be hired to coach DBs?  The new DC is already on staff.

Interesting.  Thank you Hayes for your services... I really hated that style of defense, but it was effective (mostly) and I appreciate what Hayes brought to the table in experience and truthfully some good DBs over the years.

I agree with the poster above that the only way someone like BV, Leavitt or Stoops come on board is with a HCIW title and it seems like it is Sean or nothing for Bill.  So, that's probably not an option.  I agree that Seiler is probably in line to be the next DC and good for him!  He seems like a very engaged coach and (like Coleman) has been a stud on the recruiting trail. A few other names:

Very Long Shots and would only come as a DC
- Raheem Morris:  He was KSU's DC / DB coach under Ron Prince and has been an NFL head coach and current Falcons WR coach.  This probably would be a demotion in some ways, but may also re-start his career in some ways.
- Bret Bielema: He is making millions doing nothing, so I doubt he comes .
- Mike Ekler: He has coached LB's all over the place and could probably coach DBs(?)  He is currently the DC at North Texas.
- Newman... his playing days may be coming to an end.  If I were him I enjoy the fruits of an awesome NFL career, but maybe all he wants to do is coach football?

Another random name:
- Joe Gordon: After being a director of recruiting for KSU he has coached at some lower level schools and is currently a HS head coach in Arlington.

Eckler is actually the LBs coach at North Carolina, hopefully he's the guy.

I didn't know that, thanks for the update.  Eckler has been everywhere: UNC, North Texas, USC, Indiana, UNL, LSU and OU.  Lots of experience, but none as a DB coach.  I don't know how important that is.

If Seiler is the new DC (which I am fine with) I hope that Joe Gordon gets a serious look.  I think he could bring a good recruiting footprint (Texas ties) and he has experience as a DB coach.  He also had wild amounts of sideline energy which I always appreciated.

I seem to recall Joe Gordon's previous departure being a little acrimonious, he had a beef about something. Am I making this up?

Official statement had something to do with improper texting or calling recruits or some crap like that if I recall.   Could be wrong though.

NFL player directly to college DC is a transition that will most likely fail.

Wouldn’t be D-Coordinator. Would be DB coach

I think he could step in as co-coordinator.

I have no clue, but in goEMAW's first post http://goEMAW.com/forum/index.php?topic=21719.0 of Gordon leaving there didn't seem to be any indication of wrong doing nor was there any in the Wichita Eagle report http://www.kansas.com/news/local/news-columns-blogs/article1095654.html

Apparently it wasn't something super serious as he has landed jobs at other colleges / high schools (whom I assume all do background checks).

Hmmm, that's an odd situation, thanks for posting.  I wonder too much of that was Currie's influence as well.  Oh well, we will see what happens.

To the above poster, Jim Leonhard is a good example of NFL player to DC (only one year in between as a position coach).  He also has a similar background to Newman... he his from Wisconsin, played at Wisconsin, had a significant NFL career and then returned to coach at Wisconsin.  We'd be blessed if Newman did the same thing!  After 15 years in the NFL I would imagine that he knows how to coach DBs.
