I don't like travelling much, but maybe I will now that I have a nice suitcase with 360 wheels.

Have an opportunity to go to Montevideo in December.

Uruguay is like Argentina but with more Germans of dubious parentage.

Both of you report back.  I am particularly interested in how well gringo's of the gringo looking and American speaking variety can exist in these places.

I need a central or south american place that is safe, super cheap, very good and accessible medical, AND (here is the kicker) let's my dogs both into that country AND back into the US without issue.

Sup friends! Its your IRL bud ben ji here again looking for some advice about applying for a new job inside of your same company.

I am currently in sales and just crushing it left and right but know that I don't want to be in sales forever, just so happens that is where I can make the most money right now. Our company recently created a new position as a "Pricing Manager/Analyst" that I have applied for and will have a formal interview in about 2 weeks with the boss 1 level above my boss and another person in our company(We only have 55 employees and the big boss hired me 3 years ago as the 10th employee so I know them both very well). The main focus of the position will be to price out our services for large RFP's that come in and then track our results.

Currently each sales manager completes their own RFP's and the last 3 I have completed have led to the most new sales since our fiscal year started in June... so I know I can do the job.

My question is how should I treat the interview process? My initial thought is to prepare for it and treat it the same way as if I was an outsider applying for the same job. I have updated my Resume to reflect the skills needed for the job and plan to bring it to the interview. I am also working on developing a standard process to follow each time we receive an RFP and a process to check results 3/6/9/12 months after the bid is completed etc.

Couple of questions I have -

1.Our dress code is business casual casual (Jeans and a polo basically and shorts on friday/monday in the summer). Should I dress up in a full suit on the day of the interview? I'm leaning towards yes but figured I'd get some feedback from everyone here. If I do dress up in a suit I will  stand out all day at work and I'm sure I'll get about 3 questions for co-workers on if I'm visiting a client or why I'm dressed up.

2. How should I approach the Compensation Question? I do not know what the salary range is the for position and obviously they know how much I currently make. My usual approach to the salary question in a interview is to say I'm competitively compensated and then ask what the salary range is to get them to throw out a number first...That doesn't work as well if they already know what your salary is.

3. Any other pro tips?

definitely suit if you want to feel like a gigantic dumbass in front of your coworkers

there’s no expectation in a company your size that you’re rocking a suit to an internal interview

Did you discuss this with your current manager and do they support it? I'd lean on them for advice on how to approach the interview and salary question if they support you (and let them know about it even if they might not support it). Chances are they already have a range in mind and they hopefully wouldn't be talking to you if they didn't think their salary expectations were somewhat in line with yours. Your boss would know more than this group.

And don't wear a suit but wear the dressiest business casual shirt you have.

There’s a giant middle ground between jeans/shorts and suit.

if you don't wear a suit be prepared to be asked by the interviewer why you decided not to.

This is kind of a joke, but if you need to make face to face contact with clients I'm guessing it would be odd to wear a suit.

I work in a small, casual office as well and I can't imagine wearing a suit to an internal interview. Agree with wearing the dressiest version of business casual.

Also what route did you take with the last jobs thread topic?

It's honestly very cultural dependent. I've interviewed internal candidates and had no idea what they wore but would have thought it was strange if they wore something even remotely business casual, and I'm sure sd's company is in the opposite end of the spectrum. Benji, I think you're gonna have to take the temperature of the office yourself.

I think the fact they wear shorts in the office tells us all we need to know

like, do you ever see people in suits in your office?  if yes, then wear a suit.  if no, then don't.

gameday decision with a sports jacket is a pretty good boyscout solution.
