Title: Elite French Fry Thread
Post by: GregKSU1027 on April 10, 2018, 05:04:26 PM
My brother and I were having this conversation today and we were trying to come up the criteria for the perfect french fry, it all started with this poll on twitter that was asking, if you were to only have one of these style of fries what would it be? Crinkle cut, Waffle Fries, Curly, shoestring or steak fries.

My top three are probably
1) Shoestring
2) Curly
3) Crinkle

Figured I would drop this question to the peeps on goEMAW and see what everyone thought.

a perfectly crispy crinkle is tough to beat is we're going for strictly type of deep fried french fry, no seasoning (other than salt) or other toppings.

When they are being irrational assholes, you have to do something to convince them to eat.

I think they must be referring to fries that have spent multiple trips through the fryer and have that perfect crunchy outside/soft middle, because there is no way that restaurants are egg washing and flour dredging raw potato sticks before dropping them in to the fryer.

Freddy's fries are annoying because you have to get a bunch of those teenie tiny fries all lined up perfectly to dip in the fry sauce at once to make a decent sized bite.

Probably great if you have Trump-sized hands though.

The fries I had at pretty much any place in Brussels and Amsterdam blew the starch off American fries, it was humiliating.
Mayo on fries is disgusting.

try covering them with chili and cheese, and use a fork to house those puppies in your mouf without any regard for your health and well being

Can we talk about the fries (and the food in general) at the Hi-Lo for a minute? They have the best crinkle fries I've ever had.

I really love crinkle cut fries places that honor the "extra crispy" order.  You get some places that meet that request with either ignorance, or disdain.

For a place that just does chicken fingers, they should really learn to do them well.

raising cane's crinkle cuts could be good, if they didn't suck so bad (never crispy)

Never been to nor had a desire to go to Raising Cane's.  My takeaway from this thread is they suck.  Can I get a better experience by throwing some Tyson chicken tenders into the Fry Daddy?

i stopped by gates on main st yesterday for lunch and always order my fries extra crispy from them, rarely do they come that way though.
but yesterday they were great.  i also got a combo and a half (brisket and turkey) to go along with my crispy fries.

I think you would get the exact same experience

my first experience w/ cane's was bad but i've been many times since and it's not a bad place.  very good coating to chicken ratio and while a spicy version would be nice, their regular tenders dipped in gates hot & spicy are good.

also, if you're complaining about chicken tenders being bland, you should take a look in the mirror and ask yourself why you're complaining about a food that's most popular with 5 year olds is bland.

The sig’spi’ on their canes sauce is extra mild ranch dressing and a 1/4 ratio of honey mustard/water.

There’s a chicken finger chain down here called Layne’s that started in College Station. Their chicken and fries taste exactly like Raising Canes but Aggies will get butthurt if you don’t say Layne’s is better.

I think they fry the chicken in raisin oil.

Did you know Chick-Fil-A has waffle potato chips?  They look like little tiny baby waffle fries.  Very adorable.
