Fixing the Octagon.
« on: January 24, 2013, 11:18:19 AM »
Just spit ballin here.

Since we know we're all about a world class fan experience and revenue generation here at K-State, here's the plan.

New center hung scoreboard.  I'm thinking big and HD.  I'm also thinking ribbon boards where the highschool decal for our historical accomplishments currently resides.

Suites.  Very important for the vast amounts of K-State grads sitting on piles of dispensable cash.  Blow out the concourse and load it up.  Revenue.

And lastly, the white aisles gots to go.  Purple em up.

Oh, and better lighting and a more kick ass sound system and high density wi-fi.

I like it.

The video boards are awful. The new ones seem even worse than the previous ones.

purp aisles make it way more doomy.

There are no new ones, those video panels were the original video panels that were put in 10 years ago.

You would have to do major surgery to get decent suites unless you were simply going to enclose the shitty suites we have now and put some nice stuff in them.

The loge boxes are as close as we're getting to suites anytime soon.

hang beasley and pullen's jerseys. build a non-permanent platform for the band in the tarp area. put in miles and miles of ribbon board. sweet boxes on the alumni side.

the vertical part of the steps are going to stay white so that people don't trip.

At some point in the not so distant future, the Bram will be ready to be brought up to current standards through major surgery.  It's a 20+ year old building that basically functions like it does when it was built, aside from loge boxes.  It's actually very well maintained, but just lacks the inventory of premium amenities to generate revenue from the vast majority of wealthy K-State fans and corporations.

And when that point comes, we won't spend $100 million on a Mizzou Arena, but will most likely spend in the $35-$40 million range for significant improvements.  Things like expanding the concourses, and adding in new concessions, bathrooms, a dedicated team store, premium club space, and room for suites.

Yeah, good point. Purple steps aren't happening because those stairs--and how they change width/spacing halfway down--are treacherous enough for our tucks as is.

Per code, the only part of the step that is required to be a visibly contrasting color is the top of the nosing on the tread.

The riser can be any color that you want it to be.

The Bramlage steps were painted white back in the day, because we didn't implement focused aisle lighting for dark settings like a concerts.  This made some sense for safety reasons, when they actually thought the building was going to be used for concerts on a regular basis.  Now it isn't.

I thought the reason the practice training facility didn't actually connect to Bram is so that it didn't qualify as an addition and thus require Bram be brought up to current codes because just doing that would be huge before the cost of the add on facility or proposed changes to other stuff?  iirc, there was a pretty large price tag on just the code issues.

I think it is because the tunnel that would connect the two was supposed to cost 5 million.

A newer concept in basketball arena video boards is the Cowboy Stadium style boards, with larger/longer screens facing the sidelines and then smaller screens on each end facing the endzones.   Side viewing capability of LED videoboards has increased dramatically so the majority of the arena could easily view the larger sideline facing boards.

Why settle for the smaller ones on the ends?  Make that rough rider a four-sided monstrosity.

instead of "visitors" use "ghosts" and then have team enter to that ghostbusters song.

No, the visitors need to be "victims" and we need to be the scary ones.

Let's get rid of the tarp and build something over the top (maybe additional seating?). It would also make it a cooler entrance for the team

On the giant four sided scoreboard, you could play different things before the game, to encourage people to come early.  Maybe show a movie to the students section.

We've been over and over the tarp issue.  It's here to stay.  Deal with it.

Would they potentially do some improvements when they do phase IV of the football stadium? Or would they hold off or do it separetly? It'd make sense only because we'd already be doing major construction on the Bram in Phase III and Phase IV given the location in the press releases for Phase IV. Just curious
