LJS was my first job ~17 years ago in Newton. This is bringing back a lot of memories.

@jonmorosi: Just spoke with Royals GM Dayton Moore. He said he is "not even contemplating" changes to coaching staff or job of manager Ned Yost.

Face palm number one on the day!

Gonna check out this dumpster fire in person tomorrow. Stretched out my wrist real well today in preparation for nonstop face palming. Should be a riot!

I'll be honest, I think Ned does plenty of dumbfuck things but I haven't been irate with him like everyone else.

I think that I wouldn't normally be this frustrated but this is supposedly "the year". Now, I know that's been thrown around a lot the past 20 years but this seems like "it" more than any I can remember.  We don't have hoards of talent (but enough), which means if we want to make this playoff thing happen, we have to be nails in the "little things" department.

A manager's job is to put his team in the best position to win at any given time. From what I've seen in these first two game, he hasn't. Even Detroit's announcers were question his decisions today. If he pinch hits, let's say, Maxwell for Esky, and Maxwell grounds out, I'm okay with that. At least we played the odds and gave it a shot. But Ned's too concerned about some kind of psyche in Esky's head. If we want to win, we can't be making these boneheaded decisions.

good post, and quicker than me. shootah.

Who plays short if Escobar isn't in?   Thought we'd already used the utility guy to run for Infante?

Ciriaco could've been substituted for Escobar in the 8th. He ended up pinch running for Infante in the 9th. Just seemed odd to take your only player who had done anything offensively (Salvy) out for a PR, but then do nothing when the worst hitter in the majors last year comes up against the best pitcher in the majors. I guess it would've messed up Escobar's head too much.

I definitely am not a fan of Salvy ever being out of a game, with a few obvious exceptions.   Yost does appear to be stuck in a perpetual rebuild mode.   That's all well and good for a season or two, but eventually you do have to start treating them as ballplayers and not worry about their egos.   I hate to say it because I love Escobar but, if his psyche is really that fragile, he probably isn't the long term solution at short I had previously thought he was.

I am, unfortunately, losing some faith in Escobar. I really like the guy as well and I think he has that potential but the clock is ticking. He is nails defensively, but at what cost offensively? Even in his career year, his ability to get on base was only slightly above average. My hope for him would be to continue to be a top shortstop defensively and an average hitter.

Boston - Foreplay/Long Time

Starts out rocking, silence, then crescendos into that chill guitar solo. Very melodic. Love it.

I love me some Rany. He gets it.

I'm not solely blaming these losses on Ned. We have been dormant offensively, with the exception of Salvy. But the last few innings today, again, are just mind boggling. From the pinch runners to the non pinch hitter to the no-Holland. And, of course, "We don't have enough data to develop any trends so Escobar stays in" is laughable. Maybe I don't understand baseball.

I can do nothing but shake my head at Frank Yost and his idiotic decisions. From his L-R-L-R batting order obsession to his bullpen management to, really, the entire 9th inning Cleveland debacle last year. I don't know why I'm surprised and angry anymore. The first game of the season, bullpen completely rested, an off day the next day. Yes, let's have out "go-to" setup man face seven batters and throw 33 pitches. Oh yeah, he was the key to the Will Meyers trade, remember?! It really is a metaphor for the entire Royals-in-the-David-Glass era.

His excuses are absurd. "We need to learn how to win." Are you serious? You're telling me that despite winning championships in Omaha and being extremely successful individually since they picked up a ball, they're still not sure how to win? That's insulting to every Royals fan's intelligence.

People can say, "Oh, it's just the first game. We have 161 more." I say, "bullshit". If this were game 155 in the middle of a pennant race, there would be outrage. It's no different. If we want to win, we can't have an asshat making ridiculous decisions like this.

I was at that game too, Boom. Good to see gE representing. Donald looked impressive. I'm interested to see what his future looks like here. Trout stroked that one off of Chen to dead center. I'm not sure if the kids on the lawn ended up finding it. Moose at second was... interesting. I sat next to a die hard Nebraska fan who kept going on and on about how they were going to take it to Baylor. Had a good lol.

I went to the split squad game yesterday against the Angels as well. I had heard decent things about Aaron Brooks. He looked good in the first but got roughed up in the second. Granted, it was against the Angels starters. Butler was simply horrendous at first. Booted one that ended up in right field and fumbled one that should have been a fairly routine double play. Thankfully we won't see much, if any, of him over there. Gordon continues to be sexy in every way. Had some good strokes at the plate and a nice little snag in left.

Overall, excited for this season. We have a chance to make a run. Whether we actually do it or not remains to be seen.

I feel like Valencia can play first if needed.   I guess we could elect to start Butler at first in NL stadiums but I feel like Hos is past that point...

I think Hos is definitely past that point.

Agreed. But please keep in mind who our manager is.

My thoughts on the Kansas "big 3" BBall schools and how they have prepared their teams for the tourney. My analogy will relate to something all guys (and some girls) did during their youthful years... video games.

When you were went out and bought a new video game, you wanted to get good at the video game before playing against real people... So you started on computer level easy. Then when you started beating the game consistently, you moved up to moderate. It took you a while to master the level, but you got it. After that you really wanted to make your claim to the game so you cranked up the level to difficult. It took a long time to perfect this level, but by the time you were beating the game on a consistent basis (losing occasionally) you were a bad ass and could beat 99.9% of your friends except the ones that did the same as you. Once you started playing against these friends that were as good as, you won and lost all the time, but became very very good at the video game.

I love WSU and KU dearly... In my fantasy world they both meet in the championship game... that being said, I fear that WSU never got the chance to move their competition past the moderate/difficult this year (not entirely their fault)... this will make it very difficult to make a large jump to very good competition.

KU dropped some games. All but one up to this point in difficult environments. But they played the game on at least difficult or better all season.

So without bias, which team's season would you rather have before entering the tourney against the most difficult of teams?

Congrats to KSU... you already won your championship. #stormthecourtandmaketshirts

in the wake of Marcus "not so" Smart pushing a fan because he called him a piece of crop. is this any different by a whole crowd then what a single fan says? let's class it KSU. I would be proud of my school if they cheered that, and it's also on national TV too.

Apparently, butthurt is soothing so much that simple grammar and sentence structure won't get in the way of a good rant.

I've worked in the restaurant industry for 15+ years so there's plenty to choose from but one will always stick with me.

In my early 20's I worked at a sandwich shop and was working an evening shift. A guy came in, ordered a large veggie, and left without incident. About five minutes later he came back very agitated and told me I forgot to put cheese on it.  I was almost positive I had, since it the cheese melts over the veggies and without it, it's a huge pain in the ass to try and close. Regardless, I apologized and made him a new one. He eagle eyed me the entire time. I finished it up, wrapped it up, apologized again for the inconvenience, and told him to have a good night.

A few minutes later, he was back again and livid. He started yelling at me."I told you it wanted cheese on my sandwich! Why can't you get this right?" I told him that i had put it on and offered to point it out to him. He put the sandwich on the counter, unwrapped it and screamed, "Where is it? Show it it me!" I looked down and saw a mangled sandwich. It was blatantly obvious that this guy had tried his hardest to pick the melted cheese off of his sandwich because there were little globs of dried, melted cheese all over it. I politely pointed out the cheddar and mozzarella cheese globs that were amongst the veggies. The dude lost his crap. After cussing me out, he picked up his sandwich, turned around as if to head to the door, but instead quickly turned back around and threw his unwrapped sandwich at me. He rough ridin' launched his sandwich at my face, yelled one last "eff you!" and stormed out. Fortunately he wasn't accurate and he ended up barely missing me. I looked at my coworker, was all like  :dunno: and got back to work.

anyone ever date a vegetarian? how'd it go?

I dated a gluten free vegetarian about two years ago. Very difficult to cook for. The only saving grace is that Southern California has a decent amount of weird specialized grocery stores. I basically cooked for her and then something completely different for me. At the time it didn't seem that bad but looking back it was a huge pain in the ass.

Fortunately she wasn't one of the weird, smelly, dreadlocked vegetarians. She was pretty normal outside of the diet.

The Penny pickup is low risk with who knows what potential. Worst case scenario is he sucks ass and stays in the minors. Best case scenario is he somewhow finds his crap and contributes to the bullpen or battles for the fifth spot.  Just a minor league contract with a spring training invite. No significant money exchanged.

I've wondered for a long time if this works.

http://rocksmith.ubi.com/rocksmith/en-US/home/index.aspx

I have this and it is awesome if you want to learn the songs in the games or the ones you can purchase. However, in terms of reading music, scales and such, it's not all that's much help.  It works for me because I'm not very interested in writing and composing my own music.  I'm more into covering songs as a hobby. I guess it ultimately depends on what exactly you're looking to get out of it.

Kersaw's new deal means we are mumped for Shields negotiations.

Yep. This seals the Shields era in KC. Developing starting pitching must be #1 priority for this franchise or we'll never be contenders. And that scares me.

Just curious on the Thornton hate. MIR, what would your preferred style of play be for a guy of his size? T HTUC, enlighten me as well. I can think of multiple guys (even just on the SJ roster) that I would hate before him. I find this interesting.

I have been lurking/everyonceandawhileposting since 2000. Did the old school kstatefans thing, moved to ksufans, big12warzone and now goEMAW. I think it's a combination of time and not having much to add. When I do get a chance to sit down and read, most of my opinions have already been posted so it'd just be me going through and 'ing a bunch of posts. If I do post, it tends to be in slower moving threads like the NHL and Royals threads.

Hell and no on Morales. Older, lower projected WAR and more expensive.

He killed Billy's WAR this year?   :dunno:

Fangraphs had Butler at a 1.4 and Morales at a 1.2. Keep in mind we'd also be forfeiting a first round pick.
