It's not that it's gross, it is just contrived. You have to pack up a bunch of stuff from your kitchen, then carry it a long distance, then sit on the ground and unpack it. When youre finished, you have to pack up all your soiled dishes and sundry other items and carry it back home. It is the packing, unpacking and carrying of things away from their logical places that constitutes a picnic, not the eating outside. Think about it, picking up a Big Mac and eating it in a field doesnt make you a picnic'r, it makes you a likely homeless person.
