The Mask
« on: April 15, 2015, 08:21:18 AM »
Hey Cats, quick question...I was on the OSU board and they were giving my Eers a hard time and posted an old Mask video.  I hadn't seen it since our first year in the Big 12 and it got me laughing, sooo the question...Is the Mask guy still around?  I haven't seen anything from him in a while.

No, he was just a bandwagon fan that followed K-State for that one season.

Damn...we could use some bandwagon fans like that.  Not everything he did was perfect but he had some funny stuff.  Oh well.  Thanks for the answer.

He was a fat, garbage, human being who tried to leech off the success of K-State, without any affiliation. Trust us, you do not want that for your school.

So the reason for the disconnect was that he was just the frontman for an advertising/marketing group.  That's why half of the clips have a very high production value (they are essentially demo reels for this group's portfolio) and the other half are actually made by the guy playing the mask (the ones shot in the guy's basement) alone.

The production value isn't as big a deal as the writing... when he has to write his own stuff its pretty awful, even compared to the regular videos (which is saying something)

Got it.  Thanks for the "rest" of the story.  Just when you think there's just some clever guy being a fan you find out it's all about the money, oh well.........................yer not going to tell me anything bad about unicorns next are you?  :Red faced:

i never really hated the mask like some on here, but since it was 2012 i think that was just because i was so drunk on awesome k-state football.

The original mask used in the filming of those spots is a fantastic collectors item that is sure to delight kids for generations to come, especially those in Western Virginia that have seen the "sister mamas" video.

Let me know if you'd like me to help get you in touch with the folks that currently own this glorious treasure.

I think the traveling Mask deserves a folk tale/lore.

I still catch myself singing the West Virginia one from time to time... and catch myself chuckling to the phrase "That's my sister-Momma!"... probably the best video he did out of all of them.

And the video production team basically told him they'd do his videos for free so the could advertise off of his popularity at the time. Then in 2013 they said they couldn't do it any more because their business had basically tripled in the last year and they now didn't have time. SO basically the mask made them extremely successful then got told to go screw himself.

In the end we will all look back at those videos in 15-20 years and have a good chuckle to ourselves.

Anyone wanna chat about this South Carolina dude that everyone is fawning over for making K-State his back up team? It's gotten super weird, but that K-State gif guy is super weird too, so it makes sense he adopted him.

I thought it was super dumb that the student government passed something commemorating the guy or whatever. Is student government really that pointless?
