No way I'd go east of Czech republic or west of Japan

That's dumb. why even travel?

This is smart, especially if you don't travel for work, to focus on parts of the world you have interest in.  The world is enormous and your time and money aren't. I think pushing yourself is a laudable goal, but so is being practical and realistic.

Yes, good points - my response wasn't exactly well thought out. But his post seemed to be based on strange geographical restrictions rather than his interests. Like why is Czech Republic realistic and practical but Greece or Hungary aren't? They certainly aren't significantly more difficult or expensive to get to.

And in all seriousness, you could have pretty fascinating trips and experiences for the rest of your life and never leave North America or even the United States. If you don't want to go past Japan because it's too far, why even bother crossing an ocean?

Personally, I'd be very content to never travel anywhere outside of North America again.

i've never had any real interest in asia.  i'd like my around the world to go heavy on s america, and europe/middle east with at least one africa.  i don't think you can even do that though.  seems like there's not a lot of north-southing allowed.

South America is one of the absolute worst travel destinations based on the Locked Up Abroad scale.

Tel Aviv is legit.  I don't know why you'd choose to hang with Muslims when you could hang with Jews, assuming you had done neither before.

I have family that has lived in Tel Aviv and think it is possible to say it might be worth visiting without being a racist bad person.  I would be more interested in visiting all sorts of other cities in the region that were more historically important, but again, also because I am not a racist bad person.

Different people like different stuff.  I found Tel Aviv to be a chiller version of Miami.  Has a lot more to do with culture than race (or in this case religion).  Is it bigoted to say one is more fun than the other?  Sorry to upset the hypersensitive PC police.

Also if one was spending three or four days there they could easily make a day trip to Jerusalem as its pretty close, like less then 90 minutes.

It's cheaper to go east. I have found MCI-DFW-NRT-CGK-BOM-DXB-LHR-ORD-MCI AND BACK for <$3300

You didn't say tel Aviv was like Miami or that it was better for partying than Istanbul or Cairo, you said "I don't know why you'd choose to hang with Muslims when you could hang with Jews, assuming you had done neither before".

Can you see how one way of getting your point across could be considered offensive and the other might not be? Or how they aren't really the same point?

But by all means, if you prefer to hang with people who hate homosexuals, won't let you interact with half the population (women), and don't drink, go for it.  I'm sure the museums are great or something.

MCI-LIS-DEL-SGN-NRT/HND-MCI

now this one is a little wonky because i'm mixing up carriers and stuff, but all the stops are places i want to go

MCI-LIS 30k united miles + $9, 1 stop in YYZ, air canada / TAP portugal <--- any of the big 3 can get you to lisbon for 30k, but united has the best available schedule, and anyone reading the CC thread can easily scrape together 30k UR's to transfer
LIS-DEL 20k aa miles + $175, 1 stop in LHR, BA metal (787!) <---- i may just do business class on this one for 42.5k + $238
DEL-SGN $99, air asia x, 1 stop in KUL <---- this route was difficult to find with points, but if it's available for $99 this is definitely the best deal

@puniraptor i know NRT sucks, but does it suck enough to void the advantage of a nonstop and $80 price difference?
SGN-NRT 22.5k skymiles + $21, nonstop, vietnam airlines
*or*
SGN-HND 22.5k skymiles + $100, 1 stop in CAN, vietnam airlines

and finally
HND-MCI 35k skymiles + $44, 1 stop in MSP, delta

TOTAL
30k united miles
20k (or 42.5k) aa miles
57.5k skymiles
$348 (or $411)

 :excited:

Isn't there a 3 and 5 continent packages in the back of the delta catalog? I've always noticed that on delta flights for going round the world. I also thing there are entire websites devoted to this kind of trek. Would of course be fun a huge feather in the cap. But I'd rather spend time in a place rather than spending most of in a plane.

skyteam does have a website for around the world. that's where the $4000-$5000 came from. i want to do it for 108k miles and $350.
