The only train I have ridden was in France. I would like to do some kind of train ride vacation here....But where to? And how to convince Gooch to ride on a train for long hours?

What is the getting-through-security situation for trains?

I didn't see one, but maybe they wanded KK before he got on.  Or they just profile you at those little kiosks when you check in.

So are self-driving cars going to officially kill off American train travel in the next 20 or 30 years? I say yes.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, K-State fans could have beheaded the entire KU team at midcourt, and K-State fans would be celebrating it this morning.  They are the ISIS of Big 12 fanbases.

i don't take a train because I don't want to have to "drive."  I took a train because parking in Chicago is mega expensive and traffic sucks.  If self driving cars are a sort of cure all for every reason riding in a car can possibly suck, then maybe.

If you're concerned about parking, self-driving cars would be an advantage over trains. Drop you off at the door, park remotely, then return to pick you up. They'd also be faster, more personal, and more versatile when it comes to routes. About the only downside is the much more limited freedom to move around. But logically, it seems like self-driving cars will kill train travel for good. And it seems like self-driving cars are a real possibility in the next few decades.

Cars are already a lot more convenient than trains, and trains haven't gone out of business yet.

D-rew could really learn a thing or two about parking in Chicago from K-S-U-W.

The self-driving cars could just not park at all and continue circling the block. Imagine a whole hotel full of people with their self driving cars just driving around unoccupied. What a world the future will be.

Maybe the cars could act as Uber cars while not in use by their owner.

Why not always have them act as Uber cars? Why have car owners?

exactly.

the future of cars is a network of self driving transporters with  no private owners.

Well you might still want to have your own car so you don't have to pay for a ride every time and you know for sure it is going to be there when you want it and so you don't have to pay a super expensive fair when traveling long distance.
