That's a boat made out of houses, not a house made out of boats.

Because of the foundation dipshit.  Its's made from concrete.  A house with no foundation (which is what you would use to make a house boat --- you don't need a basement in one) floats just fine.  As long as you provide adequate bilge support you should be fine.

Who cares about flooding:  Farmers and people with houses in flood plains
Do you farm or have a house in a flood plain?:  No

Exactly...As my first summer on my own (and in manhattan) approaches, I want to see some exciting weather.

Manhattan in 93 was awesome.  Spill way was amazing to watch.

I'll second that.

In 94 when spring began fairly wet, flooding was worse in some places than it was in 93.  Since the rocks at the spillway had all weathered and weren't near as brilliant by that point, many of us geologists were rooting for the flood waters to rise so overflow could wash all the old weathered rock away.

Spent many an hour out there doing geology labs (drinkin') and studying.

Awful lot of dumb-asses in this thread ignoring the obvious solution....Make your house out of the stuff that they use for submarines.

You can get old Soviet subs for like $30 on Russian ebay.

My basement has already had a big flood year.  Mainly thanks to that late snow that melted in about 1 hour the next day.

All houses should be built underwater.  So flooding won't affect anyone because they already live underwater.  Then if the opposite of a flood happens and everything dries up, oh well, people can live on dry land no problem.

People that design subdivisions.   :ohno:

hint:  put them on top of hills

Hills are expensive 'round here.

johnny,
might i suggest building a moat or "big ditch" around whatever town it is that you live in. flooding problem instantly called. you're welcome. i suggest coming up with  really good name for it though or else people from other towns might make fun of you guys. again, consider it on the house. no need to repay me.
