It's an absolutely terrible hire. Maybe he'll win some, and I really hope he does, but I doubt it.

Baseball these days is so much about recruiting and locking down close metro areas. KC is becoming a small baseball factory. If he can do that there, he'll be alright. I just expected a younger guy that would be more capable of bringing in the guys the program needs. Managing is about the 49th thing on the list he needs to do well to succeed here.

Doing things the K-State way being around #125.

well, if it’s not a good hire, then it’s a terrible hire.  that’s how these things work.  he has a far worse winning % than brad hill and it’s not close.

he was a loser at OU despite having considerable more resources there than he will here.

at face value, this hire sucks crap.  great intro to the d1 hiring game, mustang

K-State hired a D2 coach last time around, the guy who recruited me before that looked like he had never been to the gym in his life. We are on the decline and just hired a P5 coach that was big east coach of the year in the past. I’d rather roll my dice with this guy than some rando assistant. The only thing that matters in baseball management is if you can recruit. Period!

K. On a scale from 1–10, where would you rate the hire?

7. Brad Hill was a 2. Baby steps. He has tons of P5 and D1 experience. He's been successful in the past. It's a very safe hire, not a monster hire, but it's better than an assistant.

Where did the idea come from that there was some linear relationship between age and ability to recruit? Because that's rough ridin' stupid and wrong.

Oh, you mean the the youngest P5 coach out there with K-State ties? Yeah, he's not an exception at all.

at least he has a d1 head coaching record, even though that record is far worse than the guy we just ran off because he sucked

I find it odd that OU let him go after taking them to a regional last year and finishing 2nd in the conference.

They were pissed, he was going to get fired after 3 years but think they set the bar at winning some tourney games in year 4 or being fired. Well, he got them in the tourney, but they got embarrassed in that regional and that was the end.

To follow up, OU was a damn good program at the time he took over. Top 15ish probably, making the tourney every year for awhile, a recent CWS appearance, and then he came in and missed the tourney his first 3 seasons.

Brad Hill had way more upside when he was hired than this guy.  He won a NC and 9 straight conference championships.  Yeah, it was D2....so what?  Brad Hill was not a 2.  That’s just wrong.

lol. K. He sure as hell turned out to be a 2. You think recruiting D2 kids equates to recruiting D1 talent? Because it doesn't. They have half the resources and half the scholarships.

The previous guy made it to the CWS and made the tourney 7/8 years, in a much more difficult conference, and the guy before him won a National Championship. The bar was pretty high at OU.

They weren't going to settle for simply finishing 3rd in a now 9 team conference and making the tourney, just to get ran off the field.
