Purplewood is extremely sensitive that people want to ban him for being conservative. Is this paranoia founded in reality or just part of the normal conservative persecution complex?

Results will be interesting either way.

I haven't watched a single second of college basketball this season, but I always take this Thursday/Friday off for a staycation. Apparently the schedule is all mumped this year and Thursday is the play in games? Also Illinois is a 1 seed? Way to go Brad!

Anyway, feel free to discuss other tournament related stuff itt.

As some of you may have already noticed, dax is already redlining and it's not even 8am yet. This thread is an attempt to consolidate what will undoubtedly be a 100+ post day for our beloved rambling curmudgeon. Please keep all responses to dax in this thread.

Thank you for your compliance.

We all know this board is dead now that trump has been thrown out of office. Politics are about to become boring af again and none of us will even know the names of more than one or two cabinet members.

So my question to the resident pit'rs, how will you be filling all this former pit time? I think I'm going to learn how to knit.

Quote
This may be a quirk of Kansas City, but the provisions include a number of restrictions on booze. The mayor also has the power to order the closing of liquor stores, taverns and other places dispensing, serving or permitting the consumption of intoxicating liquor or nonintoxicating beer and order the discontinuance of the sale, distribution or giving away of intoxicating or nonintoxicating liquors.

For those of you that have been there and those that have not, the wood used inside the cathedral was magnificent. If I remember correctly, it was oak that was used to make the massive support beams. These were HUGE trees that were harvested to build this structure and according to accounts, they used the equivalence of 56 acres of trees to build the cathedral.

To try and recreate these MASSIVE support beams would require finding massive trees.

Well, Trump to the rescue.

The money already raised by the French will cover the cost of the rebuild three times over. I think a half a billion has already been pledged-- and probably more. But they DO need proper materials---- and there's only one place to get trees large enough to build these support beams--- california.

Trump should commit to allowing the French to come here and select some trees for harvesting and promise to make a generous donation towards the forestry service that will replant trees that the French "borrowed".

This would accomplish a few things:
1. Trump gets to help the French in a way that would endear him to anyone with a pulse.
2. The environmentalists would freak out thus making themselves look REALLY bad---
3. Returning the church to its former form would be on par with the gift the French gave us in the form of a torch holding lady.
4. Some lib somewhere would step on his/her weenie and would be eaten by everyone else leaving one less lib in the world.

Thoughts?

Should the term "toxic masculinity" be regarded as hate speech?
Fightin TX Aggie 1:32p
The stupid-du-jour is that a razor company is now running an ad campaign to fight "toxic masculinity."

How in 2019 can that concept be a thing?

With any group other than men, that phrase would be regarded as bigotry.

Wikipedia defines prejudice as:

Quote:
Prejudice is an affective feeling towards a person or group member based solely on that person's group membership (tribal behavior). The word is often used to refer to preconceived, usually unfavorable, feelings towards people or a person because of their...gender...or other personal characteristics. Masculinity refers to the characteristics of males. Throwing a modifier ("toxic") in front of the word doesn't change this.

Think about it.

Someone who says, "I don't mind black people, I just hate [n-words]" is a bigot.

Someone who says, "I don't mind Hispanics, I just hate [w-words"] is a bigot.

Same with Jews and Zionists.

You don't get to assign a negative characteristic to a group and then decide which group members don't fall into your preference.

"Toxic masculinity" is the exact same thing. If you say, "Men are fine, but toxic masculinity is a problem," you're a bigot.

You don't need to attach masculinity to it at all. Say you're against sexist behavior. I agree. I'm with you. Say you're against bullying. Again, I agree - no problem.

But when you link sexism and bullying inherently to masculinity (ie, men), you're being a bigot.

One more contrast...

Imagine Playtex running an ad campaign targeted at women who get grouchy during or leading up to their menstrual periods.

Are some women less patient, more intemperate, meaner and angrier during this time? Sure.

Imagine Playtex running ads telling women to be better. To overcome their natural *****iness that comes with PMS.

That wouldn't fly for even a minute. But "toxic masculinity" is a-ok.

They are just shaming you as white male for the sins of other white males. You're guilty by association because you're white and you have male genitals. (Am I allowed to say ***** on here or does that get filtered?)

So your ***** is the root of all their perceived evil. Now if your ***** wasn't white, let's say it was black, then it would be seen as a panacea and something for your white wife to worship. Oh ya, it's already happening in movie narratives and all over the TV industry. White man bad, POC good. The pron industry was waaaaaaaay out in front of this year's ago. So much so that white actresses that did NOT engage in sexual scenes with a POC were shamed via the net to the point that many quit and some actually killed themselves.

Ya--- that's where we are at.

A little context first. We live in California so our kids go to a private Christian school. The reason we pay for a private school is we want a different world view than is being taught in the public schools. His teacher is new this year and came from a public school.

They utilize a teaching model called the harkness model where it's required to participate in group discussions and if you don't you get points taken off. No problem with that. They are doing a unit on slavery and she asked my son if he felt any sense of responsibility or white privilege because of what was done to the slaves by white people. We had discussed this question at home and I told him to answer no because I didn't do anything to black people so I have nothing to feel guilty about. She said his answer "is trying to cause unnecessary attention from the teacher" then she called him out in the hall after class and grilled him about why he doesn't feel any sense of responsibility. Keep in mind this is 8th grade. If it was college I'd have no problem with asking him to defend his position. She basically threatened him with the phrase this is going to cause "unnecessary attention" once again.

We have a parent conference today. Not a great way to start off the first week of school.

sidenote: the other kids say she wears lowcut shirts, short skirts and tries way too hard so I doubt she lasts very long at the school anyway.
